Can't stand Urban Meyer but he is playing chess not checkers. Just saw he hired a current DC to be Co DC as his 10th coach.

Not just any DC.. one of the best in cfb. More money than Washington State and he’s from Ohio. Good hire. We’ll probably promote a support staff guy

He doesn't mess around with coaching positions these days. He pounces at every opportunity to bring in top coaches.
- He snatched Larry Johnson to be his Dline coach, and that man is one of the best in the business.
- He gets Schiano to be a DC after being a HC in both college and the NFL.
- He grabs Kevin Wilson to be OC after being a HC.
- He has Bill Davis, who is a 3x NFL DC, as his LB coach.
- And now he gets Alex Grinch, who actually made the Wazzu defense relevant this year, to be a Co-DC. Unreal.

I can't stand Meyer either, but that list above is impressive.

Money means nothing to these schools. On a side note, if Dave Aranda can get $2.5 million per year, then it is out of control.

makes me hate him even more

Good coaches hire people smarter than themselves. They don't hire their former RB to be their OC. Just look at what McVay has done in LA. He hired all guys with great experience and even HC level experience without being the least bit intimidated. Richt is going to need to do the same here. Miami needs a real OC and Special Teams coach at the very least.

Saban does the same thing. They all get great coaches that F'd up off the field or had some bad breaks on the field.

Back the Brinks Truck up and get at Sumlin or the Ok State WR coach.

Sumlin is a pipe-dream.
But what you do is find an up-and-coming coach who has worked for strong coaches and programs.
Sort of similar to what Mike Leach in hiring Grinch when he was a relative unknown.

I see alot of folks posting articles about Alabama, UGA, OSU,etc have these awesome coaching staffs,
with dozens of staffers and coaches buried in the background.
I don't get the fascination as it has nothing to do with ingenuity and innovation.
Also, we can't keep with this, so it is pointless to discuss in that respect.
What we have to do is simply be smarter.
It can be done.

They have a substantially bigger budget to work with too.

I'm not buying that for minute. UM has plenty of money.

You sound like you're intimately familiar with UM's budget.
So tell me how UM manages to stack up with a school like Ohio State that has a massive stadium, with massive
fan-base that shows up to all games regardless of record (and pay more for tickets), is the the flagship school of
a football-crazy state and belongs to a conference that is raking in alot of money.

We just do the opposite of what makes sense
osu has the $$$ to hire anyone they want. We can’t compete with their athletic budget. FYI we can’t compete with athletic budgets of many top athletic programs. Take a look at what Texas A&M is doing now that they hired jimbo. It is all about the Benjamins.

I mean, what is there to argue?

How are there so many whiny posts in this thread when we haven't hired the coach yet? Why don't you wait until he's hired before you whine about how terrible he and everything else is.

UM's big money maker is UHealth... if you could convince medical operations to help fund sports operations we would be a rich football program. So unless UM discloses the complete FB operating ledger to the public to prove me wrong, I seriously doubt that we can come anywhere close to the OSU operating budget. As Medley says, OSU has a major football and sports following, $$$$
