That OL holding those spots makes me feel somewhat good seeing that they have been battling against our front 4 all Spring/Summer/Fall and won't get the "deer in highlights" when get go up against LSUs. The moment wont be too big for them.

Finley was about to get booted out of here by the fanbase so I am glad he found a role for himself in this D. He was a big time get when he committed to us over Clemson so he was no slouch. He can play. But can he cover? That could be how DSmith gets that job back in a game like this. Unless we go Dime defense in some situations LSU will force Finley to cover someone.

Everything else looks great.

Darling and Donaldson weren’t that bad last year.

They were bad. Were they total turnstiles? No. Were they "good" linemen? Absolutely not.

Check out my man @dgould151 on Twitter. He does excellent analysis on positions. Also PFF grades each player. Darling was flat bad. Donaldson was a true freshman, so naturally you'd imagine he'd have some struggles. But yes, the guards last year were absolutely not up to par by any stretch of the imagination. I expect the Jones/Mahoney combo to be much better, and Gauthier will do nothing but improve as well.

According to the coaches DS25 it's the mental aspect (missing assignments) that's keeping him out of that #1 spot.

It was expected for Donaldson. Watch how better our line will be next year when he and gaynor are jr's
and the 3 fresh as sophmores. It's hard for any young kid to come in as a fresh and dominate on the OL.

Darling was atrocious, holding calls seemed to always be against him.

Must admit I was hoping Cleve Reed won that RG job, but that means we have just that much more depth.

Reports on Mahoney have generally been positive except that he isnt very strong in the run game. But Reed i think will get more and more playing time and might take that job over by the end of the season. Especially if the run game struggles.

Donaldson had a promising freshman year, but he was beat more than a few times last year.
Still too heavy. Don't know how he's gonna handle speed rushers. Come to think of it, he whiffed on some bull rushers too at the end of last year.
