Offensive Tackle depth

Cantwell tweet that he is home at LT only so I guess he will have to wait his turn.. He rather be bench at LT than get on field and do something..
What an outstanding take. I guess I wasn’t under the impression that players get to demand what position they play and when they play. Great stuff dude. You taught us all something good today.

That was my biggest concern going into the season; we had a lot of inexperience behind the starters.

Four players with one year of experience. Six players with no experience.

Last year was more balanced.

Gotcha, don’t remember that play. I know the kickout is different but if we can get Cantwell playing LT and Samson at rt we could be better off. Thought the line played better yesterday. Congdon needs to keep playing, RR looked better, Buchanan roughed it out.
Agreed, the OL played well. What bothers me is the specialization of a position. Can’t play RT, only LT, can’t move to guard R or LT. JFC, expanded your field of knowledge and exceeded your grasp of another but similar position.people in real time jobs absorb the nuances of all the jobs in their job description. Playing different positions along the OL, when your an OLineman should be mandatory. Don’t have to be an AA, just be competitive and competent, and fill the hole. It’s not like this is anything new. From PoP Warner to HS to college kids have stepped up and filled the holes. In every job and profession the most successful workers are the Swiss Army knife workers the step in and fill the holes. CFB shouldn’t and hasn’t been the exception. Can we just calm down and STFU about The Who what and where of our OL. Let the coaches plug and play who fits their needs, when the need arises. The pros specialize by position, by and large. CFB, not so much. How many times have we heard teams talk about prospects, they played tackle in college, but they’re a guard in the NFL, or vice a versa. For a draft choice that’s a good resume to have. Cut the s**t, let them play.

That’s an awfully bold statement to make given that’s not the case.

I'd bet just about anything that he'd play RT if it gave him the chance to get in the game.

He's not a Guard. Not a good one anyways. This idea that every lineman should be able to play 4 or even 5 positions isn't realistic.

I don’t understand this comment at all. No team cross trains more than UM, and yet you are demanding that UM does exactly what UM does. So what is the complaint?
And out of curiosity, have you ever played offensive line? If not, how can you know the ease or difficulty in switching positions.

We currently start 2 tackles who played guard last season, so they clearly cross trained.
We start a center so started 2 seasons ago against UF at left guard. So he has clearly cross trained.

So are you complaining just to complain? Because the evidence does not support your argument at all.

Not making excuses for Meriweather but I don’t think he had any inkling he was going to play RT last night. He probably isn’t quite as bad as we saw at RT (hopefully).
