The biggest problem with the Pro-Style offence is that it requires players to be more skilled/stronger than their opponents.
More and more high schools are running spread formations so it's harder to find the type of players that would thrive in this system (especially in South Florida). Also the system requires the quarterback to make a lot of quick decisions on what they are seeing, so it becomes hard when teams are throwing a lot of moving parts at you (like VT).
The spread offence is able to simplify things to a quick read and react, the plays generally aren't as long developing and you spread team horizontally and vertically.
An offence that has a mobile QB can put pressure on defences because it add's an extra player in the box, so if a team plays 2 high and you run a QB power with the RB leading - it becomes 8 on 7.
I know a lot of people wanted the Pro-Style because that's what we ran in our hey-day but look at how the quick tempo with a mobile QB affects the D. Hopefully we can progress to a spread offence that focuses on a power running attack, gets the ball in the hands of playmakers in space and gives the defence the threat of a running QB when Perry is ready to go.
