Offensive play calling is limited, but do we have the same problem on defense?

Maybe I missed something but did we ever try adjusting the looks by dropping extra defenders into coverage? From what I saw, we kept sending 4-6 against an offense that was clearly committed to getting rid of the ball quickly. Also our CBs were consistently bailing and playing with a cushion, which let their WRs work underneath without much disruption. Why was that the approach?

Combination of things. What hurt us most on defense was our **** poor tackling. That last TD by Bell was 2024 level bad.

Defense played bad and still was the reason we didn’t get blown out.

UL has a real coach who came up with a great game plan to neutralize Bain and the DL as best as possible.

Still, the quick passing should have been something we should of foreseen as a possibility

Tackling was as bad as a Manny team last night.. which in large part contributed to us losing

Offense has been a problem since Mario got here. Cam is an alpha who said **** Dawson and his 4 plays playbook and basically went Peyton Manning and was running his own offense. He even helped Mario’s run up the gut only runs plays work.

Outside of the first 2 drives, they scored 10 points with us giving them 4 TOs! If Bell wasn’t guarded by OJ, who gave up most of the catches, Bell doesn’t have that big of a game.

Get over yourselves already and just admit Beck lost the game!

I just don’t get why we play off the wr 10-15 yards so often? If you have a speed rush and the only way they can beat you is to get rid of the ball quickly, why do not try and knock their timing off? Or make the qb question them being open? It’s just fn weird and stupid. It’s also not maimi football. All this talk about wanting to be up to the Miami standard and then you play soft *** dbs. It’s the equivalent to running between the tackles and not trying to bust anything outside ever. Also 100% not Miami football.

The offensive playcalling is 🗑️. All those lateral passes are 🗑️. Our defense was good enough to win they got up back in the game with the ff and fumble recovery. Our offense isn't terrifying anyone. Louisville has a real coach with real talent. The other coaches we faced have lame duck coaches with real talent but they have a lame duck coach so it negates it a bit kinda like us.

Heatherman limits chunk plays. And it’s been effective! The issue against Louisville was tackling. It’s one thing to force short passes, but you’ve got wrap ‘em up. My only complaint towards Heatherman was I think Toure plays some snaps he shouldn’t considering his struggles in coverage. But as a whole the team didn’t start with the same intensity swarming the ball and hitting.

That’s not a scheme issue imo. And I think we mostly figured it out. It’s impressive we did as well as we did considering the turnovers and inability to sustain drives

We don’t have enough elite playermakers. Toney is a stud on offense, but he doesn’t take the top off a defense. And he’s the only reliable weapon. Fletcher is an ok running back, but not capable of creating his own run lanes. Beck stinks and that makes the problem exponentially worse. We had the same issue last year except we had a generational talent at QB so he alone covered up most of the flaws. On defense we’re elite at the edge. Every other position is mid. Dont have to be elite everywhere, but the team needs to have more playmakers. Unfortunately Cristobal doesn’t recruit positions other than OL and DE at a high enough level.

All the linebackers looked bad last night. Louisville was able to plan and scheme against our tendencies, and it worked on many plays. Heatherman got outcoached last night, but not as bad as Dawson. Heatherman was not the main reason we lost. His defense plays tough and he does try to make adjustments. He was just a step behind on some critical drives in the 2nd half. Our poor tackling didn't help either.

Defense wasn't the problem. For all the confusion and awful tackling on the first drive they got off the field. Should have been 3 or 0 points given up. We didn't give up an explosive play for 6 drives in the middle of the game. The 2nd half TD was a gut punch of a drive given up, but they essentially negated it with the fumble and return on the next one.

Our QB threw 5 INTs and missed one or two wide open guys for TDs. That's why we lost the game.

I was lost watching OJ play soft all night against that guy.

It was working until they came up against a coach who schemed a game plan against what Miami has shown for weeks now. I also don’t like it. You make a qb go to his second or third option with this d line and we will feast on the mistakes they make and sacks.

Seems so simple don’t it? And all said, even with the missed tackles, our defense STILL didn’t cause us to lose the game.
