Offensive expectations

My only expectations offensively are that we consistently move the ball.

Utilize our playmakers in the passing and running game.

Have no turnovers

Score often and whenever it's necessary

One thing I noticed under Richt was the more time we had to prepare, the worse the team looked.

Playcalling in itself isn’t a cure all, but it goes a LONG, LONG WAY toward building the team’s confidence and momentum.

The entire offense looked unprepared against LSU and there was no reason to look like that with nine months to get ready.

Some would say “execution” is an excuse for bad coaching, whether in practice or a game.

Our oline got beat a lot of plays, but our d line beat their o line a lot of plays too. Field position and mistakes were a huge key.

But when your plan is to move the ball with Rosier throwing deep all game, it’s gonna be an uphill climb.

Yep and we had the defesnive player of the week and their O-line was still able to beat our guys enough to keep important drives going, pick up first downs, break off that one long run and win.

Based off what I've seen in the spring games, Enos offense looks like Sean McVay playbook. I expect us to play complimentary football. 24 ppg is reasonable for us.

The biggest difference this year from the last 15 years, is Enos... i believe that he is smart enough to make the adjustments and right the ship even if we have a couple of bad quarters of offense...

I agree but when I rewatch that game there were ALOT of bad execution and bad calls that twisted together to produce a pathetic offense.

People always said that Rosier got figured out and teams forced us to pass into tight windows.

But in his first start against Duke, they tried to force him to beat them AND HE DID!

Duke ran heavy cover 1 with bump and run and Malik threw STRIKES for touchdowns and first downs. They tried to take away the run but he made them pay.

Coley didn’t come out like that though. He settled Malik in with a variation of short throws, screen passes, and qb runs. He called a speed option and mixed up the run game well inside and out.

Malik’s inaccuracy killed some drives, but Coley built his confidence from the first snap.

We ran the ball against LSU better than people think. Just had too many missed opportunities. The screen game hurt them for their constant aggression, but we abondoned it.

I just think if Richt mixed it up more and called shorter, quicker passes, the offensive production would have been a lot better. Even with our limitations at qb and ol, it should not have been as catastrophic as the 2018 offense became.

I get amused by the notion that the O-line will benefit from better play calling.

Wouldn't a QB who threw an incompletion benefit from better play calling, like a handoff or a pass play he can hit? I think that's wishful thinking and excuse making.

That's not the way O-lines work. In the critical short yardage situations your play selection is reduced anyway. Its still becomes a matter of lining up, firing off and beating the guy across from you (more often than not) and creating enough space to convert those 1-3 yards. And, we weren't very good at that last year on 3rd down over the entire season

It also wasn't play calling when it started that caused the O-Line not to pick up a-gap blitzs against LSU to save their lives. That was O-linemen not knowing their assignments or executing.

I'm hoping the O-line gets better because a couple younger guys got some playing time. That they bought in to the TNM, know the playbook and worked harder in the weight room.

But just like last season, we won't really know until they show us they can sustain drives against an SEC-built front 7.
This 100%. The oline needs to step up. If they don’t its gonna be the same stagnant O from last year. Ppl was hollering that the play calling was vanilla. Well **** if I was a play caller and had no confidence in my oline I’d play to the strength of my D not get crazy creative to.

It’s true...to what extent and how much can be debated but it’s 100% fact..you just don’t know football.

I don't care what style offense they decide to run as long as we have a productive running game like ALL of our championship teams. When we face a team that is not as tough as our players I want us to jam it down their throats and save the heroic and wild plays for competitive games. The object is win every game you should win by force and let the chips fall where they may in underdog games. Butch loaded up the 2000 2001 teams with depth at running back, that is why I've wanted us to add an RB from the portal, wear the weaker teams out by force using all out RB's. Look at our decade of dominance and all those teams had terrific RB's, especially in our big games although the WR's and TE's were quite good but they all blocked down field too. When you are bigger, tougher, stronger then your opponent, beat him up.

My wish is for the offense to improve as the season progresses, playing their best game of the season in the last game of the season. Could be a minor bowl game, Selection Commitee Bowl Game, or National Championship Game.

Agreed. I want to see continual improvement as the season goes deeper into the schedule. The OL firing on all cylinders and getting push off the line and into the 2nd level. Will we come out that cohesive Game 1 versus the hated Gayturd? Probably not. I think Enos will ease whoever wins out at QB, and have an expectation that we can rush the ball to eat clock, control tempo/momentum, and utilize what should all around be a better defense than what UFag will wield to minimize possessions and have us score when we do have the ball. I’m talking 12-15 play drives, ones that chew up a ton of yard and wears down their defense. Then utilize the 4th quarter to zap the last remaining life out of them. From there after the W, we can start looking to expand our offense and use more weapons in the passing game. I’d still like to see us putting up @200yds per game on the ground. A nice rushing attack with a balanced throwing ability will keep defenses guessing and our offense less predictable.

24ppg is horrible in todays game. The shîtty offense last year averaged 28.8.
I agree that 24 is bad but that 28.8 was inflated by the 77 points they scored against Savannah State.

Vs power 5 teams the offense averaged 21.7. Vs fbs 24.8. Vs acc 24.6. So 24 a game will not cut it. Need to be around 30.
