Still am not sold on Blake Baker, however they are showing improvement with their tackling and only giving up few points the last 4 games with the turnover continuing to be consistent. It appears Manny is more involved and it's showing for sure which is encouraging as the vibe on defense the last 2 games has felt more like the last 3 seasons where we had confidence when out there not holding our breath like the first 7 games this year.

Dan Enos is a real concern for us. The stat we saw this weekend showing that we at the bottom of the barrel in 3rd down conversions and the worst in 3rd and distance averaging 8.8 yards to go is troublesome. He seems to be unphased by this as we are showing zero progress in this as the season progresses unlike our tackling on defense which had putrid but we are seeing an improvement from our players here stemming from their coaching and emphasis on it. Enos, especially for being paid with what he is needs to adapt to what we have and not shove a system down our throats where we just don't have the horses to be effective. To be fair, Enos shows flashes of greatness but consistency is something we've lacked under Coley, Richt and now Enos calling our plays with 3rd down being a weakness with all three of them.

Thought our OL looked much improved against FSU and even Pitt limiting their sacks which have plagued us all year in both games. As a QB Coach Enos has shown great progress as both Williams and Perry are improved at their position and it's obvious (Thanks Jon Richt). Would like to see Enos spread it out, use what we have and accept what we have and get off of his system that has worked in the past. It's no different from hearing Richt say "these plays have worked for the last 30 years".

it's unfair defense has the same system offense it's still new with freshmen at almost the whole line with game experience I'll give enos next with the same bunch bet the offense will look a lot more smooth

Offense because of experience at qb and offensive line is beyond the defense. There is zero Enos can do until the experience catches up to the coaching. The oline has looked alot better so hopefully going forward the qb game will look alot better and in return that makes Enos look like a genius

Ditching most of the under center plays made things much easier for both the OL and Jarren.

It's ridiculous it took that long for Enos to figure it out, and he should be replaced in the offseason if continued improvements dont happen the rest of the way.

Baker has gotten a lot of ****, but it's basically another top-15 defense, and outside of the VT game, and a 1.5 quarters vs UNC, the D has gotten the job done. He hasn't been perfect very clearly, but he seems to be doing a decent job, and it's the least of our worries.

I'm starting to think that feedback from the players (at that recent meeting) may have forced Enos to finally change his approach on offense.

The Defense has been very stout the last few games....since Manny took control. The defense under Baker was not even close to as good as the last few games. The difference is night & day. If Baker stays, Manny has to remain heavily involved in the Defense as it has made a huge difference in the results.

Our inability to run the ball is what is killing us on 3rd down. That stat should improve next year with better OL play.
Been saying these exact words for 10+ years. In theory, you are completely right but we simply just haven't gotten better up front.

We are more successful when we throw on first down, do more of those quick passes to the receivers and THEN try to run but don’t do it on first down because they usually stop us for a gain or 1 or so

Also, can someone explain to me this defensive alignment on 3rd and 2 when we were only up 7? This was where Cam throws it to Hornibrook and he scampers for the first, right when he catches it, the WR runs deep and Gurvan (I think) correctly turns to run with the WR but I was having flashbacks of no D's goal line defense when I saw this alignment.

We have 8 in the box to stop Cam, so no Safety help but its not like Hornibrook is fooling anyone with his speed and for us to have no one within 10 yards just seems like a mistake.

yeah I was screaming for at least one of the DBs to come up!!! It was the only other threat!!

Playcalling was bad again for most of the game, which is why we only put up 27 pts while getting the ball 4 times in their territory and we got nothing on the drives. It's amazing how a win will blind those with little to no knowledge of how to honestly analyze and chart a teams production thru a game. Anos lack of scheme to personnel adjustments and playcalling woes have greatly held the offense back. I also think that he needs to loosen the leash on JW and Perry by trusting them to go make a play for you and not be so conservative in certain situations. Anos hanging around another year will not benefit the ol or backs, and who will be the wr1 & wr2 next season. Teams will double brevin and force our hand with unproven gamebreakers. Bring in a spread guy who has demonstrated proven and consistent success. You can still feature cam and cheaney while keeping the Lbs honest and on their heels. This will be Manny's make or break move to show if he's dedicated to team success or loyalty to friendship.

Not the greatest alignment but #3 is your main concern, both on this play and in this football game. And Miami absolutely shut his *** down AGAIN. I agree that the DBs can slide up a little towards the LOS, but Akers can throw the ball. If you completely disrespect that and sit down at the LOS, he can easily throw the ball 30 yards downfield. So this wasn't perfect, but I'm much happier with having 8 guys in the box and all 11 sets of eyes on #3 (look at every single defender) rather than worrying about this ball going outside. If FSU beats me by having their best ball carrier throw the ball to a slow QB, hats off. But you're not beating me running simple wildcat with your best player.
