As a diehard Hurricanes fan, I am always overly optimistic about a new season. Unfortunately for the past 12 years, especially the last 5 under Folden, that optimism has continuously turned to heartburn. But wait, y’all! There are good times ahead but not as far ahead as some of you might think. Call me a homer or a 'blind *** fan', but I believe the time is now for Mark Richt and the boys. I know there is some uncertainty at corner, but I think that we will get a productive year from Redwine, Jackson and true freshman Malek Young. Also, added depth with Adrian Colbert, (who has reportedly been playing with an edge early on in camp) and a possible Jaquan Johnson sighting at the nickel should help that unit keep pace with the rest of the defense. I'm not too concerned.

The schedule is brutal and aside from the two cupcake games to start the season and one that Miami better have their mind right (@App State), there are four pivotal games in the month of October that will determine whether or not our Canes realize their championship aspirations. Don’t get me wrong; I don’t want to discount their first opponent in October- on the road against a ball hogging GT team. I just think that the attacking 4-3 scheme alone will easily humble that outdated offense. But the other four games, these four games right here- (in my Kat Williams voice) in October (FSU, UNC, @VT, @ND) are the games that can propel Miami to a shot at the ACC Championship. If Miami can get to Charlotte after knocking off three preseason ranked teams (FSU #4 , ND #9 , NC #20 ) in one month, Miami would be one game away from crashing the playoff party.

Look for the post title of “October” during this stretch of games as I will give my take on the matchups the week of. And although it is only August, because of all this FSU hype, I just could not wait to talk about that October 8th matchup...

The word on the street is that FSU is loaded. What else is new? But yet they were considered to have been rebuilding last year. That explains the beat down Houston gave them. Right! We know that they will be good. The entire offense returns and the defense, although they lose their leader in Jalen Ramsey, will again be full of athletes. However, this is a rivalry game, and Folden and crew are gone. Plus, the gap in talent has steadily closed over the past few years. In the previous two contests, Miami has let FSU off the hook late in the game, and that was under an incompetent staff. Keeping Cook bottled up is the obvious key to victory for Miami as he had a career day in last year’s as he gashed that read n react, 2-gap excuse for a defense for 269 and 3 TDs. Coming into this season, we definitely have the advantage at quarterback no matter who FSU decides on. Maguire is no Winston, and Francois is talented but unproven. And I’ll take Coley, Berrios, and Richards against the overrated Wilson, Rudolph, and Whitfield. Our TE duo of Njoku and Herndon versus theirs is a no brainer. Miami's offense will have no problem scoring points, so this game will come down to how well our defense plays. FSU is supposed to have this awesome offensive line but, I will take our front over theirs. Muhammad, Thomas, Willis and Norton along with significant upgrades at linebacker with Quarterman and Pinckney and the senior Grace will help Miami in slowing down Cook. No longer will Miami get outcoached or show signs of fatigue in the fourth quarter. Line them up and Miami will knock them down!

October is a month where Mark can declare that the old sheriff is back in town. I believe we beat fsu, GT, UNC and VT. The ND game will then be huge.

Fsu lost a starting Olive man today.
Notre Dame does have their TE this season.

Someone should keep track of suspensions, injuries, ect of our opponents as it relates to Miami.

I agree about the ND game only because it is on the road. Their talent as a whole does not scare me.

31-30 - that game still burns a hole in my soul

We owe them

There will be symmetry because that game will springboard us to our 6th National Title (this season), much like the 88 game became a springboard for theirs

It's going to happen this year, folks. The Bully is Back!

Personally I'm waiting for the end of the season to make any sweeping judgments. Anybody remember how badly Randy's teams bombed the second half of every season?
