Observations from Glendale

For me, things just felt a little weird when I got here...it wasn't the same feeling I had when I was in Dallas...in Dallas, I was absolutely sure we were winning and felt comfortable the whole time. Here was different. I was sure we were better and we were going to win, but weird vibes would kick in from time to time. Maybe because it was the Fiesta Bowl curse or just that desert atmosphere...that said, heres what I saw.

1. Ole Miss fans showed, and they showed big time...they were loud, a little obnoxious with the chants, but hey. Thats what they do. Didnt see much trash talking, just a group that seemed happy to be there.

2. Canes fans showed as well. It was probably a good 75-25, but the spirt of the fans was electric. Seemed to get complacent from time to time, maybe because we all knew we were so much better but somehow OM was still hanging around. Overall, the crowd was excited, relieved, and ready for the 19th. For those who were not able to attend, I could feel and hear the energy from all Canes across the country.

3. As stated, the Canes were a better team...no question. Take away the penalties a la Ohio St, what seemed to be blatant ref interference, dropped passes and adding at least 2 of the easily caught interceptions they dropped, this one would have ben a blowout. No question in my mind.

4. The stadium was pretty nice but the replays up on the big screen were absolute garbage. Also, I am pretty much over the over the top corporate sponsorships taking over the atmosphere. Stop trying to force me to cheer for Vrbo. IDGAF about them. Also, I dont need the during the commercial party hosts they throw up on the screen. Its cringy.

5. Overall, out of all the playoff bowl game sites, Phoenix may be last on the list....Miami, Atlanta, New Orleans, Dallas...much more fun. Phoenix wasnt awful, but wasnt my favorite by any means.

Any other observations Im missing?

The Ole miss side was packed...lots of empty seats in the upper deck end zones and corners. It definitely felt more even in Dallas

The players weren't celebrating as much as previously... I guess they were mentally exhausted and knew they dodged one... the game had a SMU vibe to it.

I thought it was 60-30-10 on fans. The 10% randos were just having a good time. Good portion of my club section was randos that go to the fiesta bowl every year.

Yeah, that had me laughing.

Holly Rowe (who I like and she just was doing what her bosses told her) was literally asking fans to cheer the VRBO reps on stage.

My guess we had well over 20k. The energy was just has high as Dallas. It was a back and forth second half so our crowd had its highs and lows. Very draining. A lot of folks around us couldn't watch the last couple of plays...lol.

Stadium seats 63k .. so maybe 15-18k for the Canes?

Similar kind of fan bases -- inch deep and a mile wide.

Totally different than those massive state universities in the SEC and B1G where people inevitably have family ties to the school.

So f'in ridiculous to play the CFP at drab neutral sites and force people to take time off work and spend thousands of dollars to travel so ESPN can milk these sponsorships and host cities for millions. Empty seats is what this format deserves.

Play the National Championship game at the Rose Bowl every single year. Make it the Wembley Stadium of College Football, the cathedral for the sport.

All other CFP games at the home stadium of the higher-seeded team

No, however its a communal thing....actually, no different than Gainesville, Tallahassee, or any other town that has a team to root for but doesnt attend the school...i was 7 when I attended my first Canes game in 1978...I had no idea they would be what they turned out to be...my love started early and once you get it, theres no turning back.

Want to make the college regular season "mean something" as some folks like to say over over?

Let teams position themselves for seeding and the right to host CFP games - just like it works in the NFL.

Have to play at A&M, at Ohio State, at Ole Miss, well so be it. We dug that hole.

Canes handle business and beat Loo-vull and SMU, then we're at home all the way to the championship game.

And we would've earned it

LOL, Not sure anybody in my family had ever even been to SoFla when I was a kid.

Only became a Canes fan in response to one of my older brothers liking the Gators and the other liking the Noles. Going on 52 years now
