Observations from being at the game

The only problem i had with Richt play calling was not more first down throws. We had alot of drops, protection break down as well as Perry missing receivers. Richt need to put more faith in Perry to throw the ball to the right players. Too many runs on first down put us in 2nd and long.
I agree with the OP, i been to several games and even watching on tv. I keep saying i can't complain when the play called has players running wide open, if the protection breaks down, WR drops the ball or the QB misses or doesn't see the open players.

It didn’t look like they were getting much separation to me. And the o line was getting whipped. Defense bailed us out with some big plays

So far behind. And it isn’t changing unless he gives up the play calling. He is what he is, he is stuck in his ways and it isn’t changing.

It is either ego or stupidity. And there will be no pressure coming from our tranny ***ing, short bus riding AD.

Few thoughts:

We had receivers running open the entire game, it might be tough to see it at the game but they were running free. I think as Perry gains experience he'll start noticing a lot more. Will also help if the OLine can give him a tad more time. Richt is making correct playcalls which is why I don't get how people can say he's not creative. Receivers are running all over the field. I think once the Oline is shored up and Perry just gets more games under his belt this offense will be ridiculous.

Fans in my section were calling for Rosier down 27-7. The stadium was quiet then turned into massive boos after the punt return TD and then the 3 straight runs.

This leads to the turnover chain being the greatest prop in the history of NCAA. Once Redwine made that hit and the chain came out the crowd was LIT up the rest of the game, from then on you could tell FSU would start feeling pressure.

I also liked how ****ed off Willis was getting the chain, showed alot about his character and passion knowing the defense may have let the team down a tad the 1st half.

On richt I understood why he was forcing the run, they had to stay on the field. Perry was a bit rattled and we just had to keep our own defense off the field to keep them a tad fresh and it seemed to work.
Will have to disagree re richt. He only runs that one running play to the right, takes too long to call plays and he can be a drive killer with play calling.

So do you fellas think we are pretty low in scoring offense? Maybe you should take 5 and look at our ranking........

FSU lined up blitzed the a/b gaps majority of the night. .

I said this after LSU, we were going to see a lot of that the rest of the season because that's how LSU had success against us, they were coming untouched in the LSU game a lot, so we've improved a little bit. Hopefully with the right side change on OL it helps.

Every time the running back shifts from the pistol formation teams automatically shift their d-line the opposite way and bring two linebackers in the a-gaps. At this point it a not really fooling anyone by shifting late on offense. Like folks have mentioned before their need to be WR screens or flare passes to the running backs as an audible when that happens

There were *some* open WRs. I would not say there were WRs "running open the entire game." I mostly watch DB coverages and WR route combinations. And, I sit in an endzone. I saw an unnecessary amount of outbreaking routes and a lack of combination routes. Again. But, whatever. Talk about that another day.
thanks LU for the response. it's always amazing how many football experts are posting on the board.

we most run that formation 75% of the time . everyone has seen and knows what is coming.. then all the poster ***** about the OL that is facing a defense that knows the play.

I used to make jokes about us throwing WR screens to Dayall Harris all the time but today’s game was perfect for bubble screens and halfback screens.

FSU was baiting []__[]s all game. They knew Richt's style and tried to give what they wanted knowing he would take it. Burns tipped that bubble but the DB was still closing hard and they did the same this last season with baiting the bubbles.

its pointless to run a RPO/zoneread offense when theres zero QB keep, I used to think it was because we had kaaya, but its just the way its called, its terrible, change your offense if thats the case

I wished we saw a little more 2 RB sets with Perry in the shotgun. That would have really helped protection at times and running opportunities. Like @Cribby stated FSU made it clear defensively how they would play us. Man on the outsides and blitz the middle all night long.

The only times we exploited that well were for TDS (JT4 and BJ9) go figure.

Richt runs to set up the pass. He should probably work that in reverse.

Perry has time - he usually makes the right decision and makes a great throw.

You just can’t keep putting him in situations where the D knows exactly what you’re trying to do.
This times a million. I just dont understand why slants weren't being used to shred them and open up the box for the run. Not that I am a guru, but I was so confused as to why we kept trying to smash it straight up the middle when that CLEARLY wasn't working.

The ol getting whipped and Richt not using the inside blitzes against them caused Kosi to get the yips. They were giving us bubbles all day , they were out numbered a lot today.

FSU lined up blitzed the a/b gaps majority of the night. Total disrespect as a play caller.

He didn’t help Kosi at all.

We’re way behind schematically, Richt needs help.
I kept saying to myself, they are loading the box, where are the screens. I think there was one screen to Homer and one to Brevin. Against GaTech last year he called like 8 screens in a row, where was it yesterday

Yes, FSU safeties were playing 2 deep a majority of the game, slants should’ve been involved...... if Cager could catch it

On O, we are way too **** predictable. We need a fulltime OC badly. Richt is so determined to establish the ground game first no matter what to open up the pass. Great strategy, but why force that when you play a team like LSU and FSU whose strength is their DTs and we don't yet have bully OGs to push around DL at will?

FSU's LBs and secondary are very below their usual standard. We should have carved them up with short and intermediate throws to loosen up the box - because they knew to stack it. That hurt both Dallas and Homer's ability to be effective, and it didn't allow Perry to get into a good groove and gain his confidence.

And our ST's are dog****. Take that responsibility away from Hartley please and bring in a dedicated ST coach.

Regarding the turnover chain, 100% truth!!!! It is amazing the type of energy it starts. I don't think I've ever been that confident about winning a game while being down double digits.

For those that attended the game, how would you rate the energy, specifically during the 2nd half comeback?

Understood
And I didn’t “speak of any magic plays” but okay. I was at the game and I’m well aware their were guys running open, I saw it too. But if you don’t think the play calling and predictability is an issue then it’s no point for me to continue the conversation.

And the fact that there is open guys that 5 isn’t seeing, well that’s a completely different conversation. Whose job is it to teach him that? Yeah, I won’t even open that Pandora’s box. We won the game and I’m very happy so I’m not trying to argue and start **** but man we have MAJOR issues on that side of the ball. And one of them is play calling. If you disagree then you disagree, whatever. Like I said, I ain’t here to argue and put words in your mouth like you did me, you got it. I’m done talking about it. Enjoy the W sir.

Playcalling could be better and I’m not letting Richt off the hook. But my grip is on execution more than the selection. Look at the top 4 teams in college football. They don’t run all this exoctic stuff. For the most part what they do is not that complex. It’s the way that they do it that makes them elite. It’s flawless execution and that to me is where Richt needs great improvement. I don’t see the relentless pursuit of perfect in our execution.

We were running to setup shots on 1st down. You have to give credit to FSU we called some aggressive trick plays on 1st down throughout the game and they stayed home. If we hit on 2/3 our average yards on 1st down looks a lot better and Richt looks like a genius.

I’m not going to be overly critical that Richt wanted to win rushing battle. That team that rushes for more yards is almost undefeated in this series. Also I’m not going to blame Richt for not putting the game all on Perry’s shoulders for him to make a crictical mistake when we were down 3 scores. Now the counter argument to that is well we haven’t seen it much this season anyway and that’s true, i’d like to assume it’s come down to flow of the game and what Richt is feeling (so maybe he’s off there idk), but in the end it’s about wins and we got it done.

Love your post OP and you seem like one of the guys on here who actually get it . You can't call for a young QB to take over and then get mad when he plays like a young qb. Just can't . Part of the process is looking bad at times like he did . But boy did he redeem himself with 4 tds!! On just beautiful throws.

Pinckney INT and subsequent Thomas TD catch was the loudest sustained 10 minutes I remember at any game. Stadium literally vibrated. I blacked out and went shirtless. Turned into that gif of the Mexican (?) soccer coach whose head lights on fire.
