objective review of team mid season

we are very much "we want it now" fanbase but with the talent on the roster (specifically on the OL, WR, CB, and LB) and the injuries we have sustained. I have no qualms with anything that's transpired other than the Middle tennesse disaster. We never gave up against UNC and aTm and those are two equally/more talented teams.

maybe i'm too much of a realist but I wasn't expecting much this year. If we go 8-4 I would consider it a solid building year witih the recruiting class he has coming in. the MTSU disaster will loom throughout his tenure unless he makes us forget it with a strong finish to this year and strong start to next
We are not good enough to win 8 games.

This slow, talentless team was better under the previous staff. The staff that got fired.

Objectively speaking, Mario and his staff have made the team worse. Maybe after another three recruiting classes we’ll be able to win against most teams by strictly out talenting them. Hopefully by 2025, we’ll be a nine win team.
You are correct regarding talent. But I'm not waiting another 3 years ...

were not recruiting well enough to have a huge talent advantage right now. Kirby did it with top 5 classes year in and year out but closer to 3 and higher. 11 wont cut it imo.

the recruiting class is nice but its nowhere near enough imo esp w how Mario wants to build. if he doesn't want to go innovative and wants to run a traditional more conservative offense, well be in tight games and have to out talent others. we aren't recruiting well enough esp at the skill positions to out talent the teams we need to imo. the class is ranked 11. I think well likely finish out around 10-12 once its all said and done. thats not up to snuff for a Mario led recruiting class esp given the misses we have at WR and DB

We haven’t gotten a commitment in 2 months, at this rate he is going to have to start winning with the players left to him by the previous staff in order to start getting the explosion of high end talent to consistently get top 5 classes.

Not one post or thread will sum up everything, as there are always multiple facets to how a team is performing, but the injury bug has hit pretty hard already this year. And when you're not very deep to begin with, it really multiplies things. On offense, you're probably counting on about ~25 guys to play big minutes for you throughout a season. Just off the top of my head, I can count TWELVE who have missed time with injuries:

Citizen
Chaney
Rooster
Parrish
Restrepo
George
Redding
Mallory
Arroyo
Zion
Clark
Oluwaseun

And I'm probably missing some? Again, there are no excuses. You gotta get the job done. But it'd be nice to see how the offense would look with Zion out there at LT, with X in the slot moving the chains, with Chaney or Citizen running through a secondary, with being able to play offense with multiple backs and not having to keep them in the garage because you only have 1-2 available, etc.

Why does Gattis keep injuring our offensive players?

What we have here is a group of Canes fans who never wanted Mario and would rather be "right" that he was a bad hire than see the team succeed. And that is a shame. If your need to be right is this toxic, may I suggest counseling?

Lol wut. I loved the Mario hire but a spade is a spade. Sorry but nobody saw us losing to MTSU and being in this position at this point in the season, fighting for a bowl appearance. You can point at culture and injuries and whatever else you want, but the coaching has been very sub for the money and slow to adjust to the realities of the team. And this recruiting class ain’t gonna cut it if Mario doesn’t have a serious change of philosophy for game days.

I strongly disagree with calling Linebackers abysmal and then follow it up with saying our DB's are "average at best". Linebacking group has performed much better than our DBs so far in the year....while there seemingly isn't a single DB on our roster who hasn't already been responsible for a 50+ yard pass
Flag has also been responsible for 50+ yard pass. He’s slow as molasses!

Also dude says Wesley is our best lb and my guy aint make a play yet at LB.....also added on our best ol are a guy that isnt even committed to us.

Whole bunch of hyperbole in the post.

Also are roster/culture from 2005 has NOTHING to do with whats going on right now...so im really tired of the "last 20 years" stuff that keeps getting spewed around here. Its wash, rinse, repeat every coaching change here...talk about culture the last 20, blah blah blah untl they realize the hc just cant coach. 3 years later. Coach up what you have right now...the current roster construction should have had us at 1 loss up until this point honestly.

Respect your view, but Wesley is our best LB (at least that is what is showing in practice-you can of course believe or not). If you don't think the culture of our program has been stained and has been toxic from Randy to Golden through Manny than you my friend have no pulse as to what has been going on eith this program. The current "roster construction" is devoid of juniors and seniors who can play. That is no way to build a team or program.

Ivey is our best CB in practice for 5 years now
