O-Line issues

Many of us who were raising the warning flags about this all through the summer were told “don’t worry Guysm”. Whiffing on the portal was the first misstep. Trotting out SJ and MB as guards for the first 3 games is another
But but but this OL will be elite at run blocking because Mirabal is an OL gUrU

Ok so we have to go class by class and find out who the big dawgs are who ready to step up, Where is Deryc Plazz, Juan Minaya, Nino Fancavilla, Bell bounced to nfl from '24 class, Jaden Wilkerson, Demetrius Campbell, none of these guys wanna get on the field and do something?

Was told all offseason, oline is fine, we just gonna shuffle some guys and they gonna be war ready after first few games.. Its time, shuffle and break out the big dawgs.. SJ got his make a wish granted now he can do whatever he pleases..
Plazz and Nino transferred. Minaya is buried on the bench.

Wilkerson got some offseason hype but hasn’t seen any meaningful reps.

I need to go back and look at the classes, but we had a bunch of whiffs in like 2 or 3 straight OL classes.

SOOOOOOOOOOO WHY NO PORTAL IN WHEN GUYS PORTAL OUT?!

What championship oline has multiple true freshman starting in past? I always hear its good to be near 100 combined starts?

If you were to ask Mario in confidence, I’m sure he will admit that they bungled the O line recruiting in that two-year span. This is why they went OL heavy last recruiting cycle and are doing the same this recruiting cycle because the prior classes were brutally bad.

The problem is Oline is a development position and takes time, we cant wait for '27 class to get here and then 2 years for them to grow. We need to be back channeling guys RIGHT NOW lol..

Agree, which is why avoiding the portal this past cycle was a very questionable decision

Oline looking like them Al golden/Manny Diaz lines.. We have skill guys but wea in trenches.. We dont look championship level.. and when you mention it, everyone solution is a true freshman..
That was my concern going into this season. Not size, but experience after you hit past the starters.

Four true freshman (not counting Cantwell)
Four players with one year of CFB experience

TRUE Fr I’m doubting.

If you’re looking for the closest comparison from a total experience standpoint, I think 2021 UGA

I'm not sure what people were thinking; you don't just replace four starters, two of which were pretty **** good. And freshmen take time. But at least as a unit they have been pass blocking a little above average against average or below DL fronts.

Here are some teams that were considered the best O-Lines coming into this season. Nobody mistook us to be in that category. But we have a single sack. It is going to take some time to get the run blocking going with new and young guys.

  • Ohio State: 5 sacks allowed (2 vs. Ball State, 2 vs. Texas, and 1 vs. Kent State).
  • Georgia: 3 sacks allowed (all 3 were given up during their Week 3 road matchup against Arkansas).
  • Notre Dame: 2 sacks allowed (1 through their first two contests and 1 during Week 3 against Michigan State).
  • Miami (FL): 1 sack allowed (they held a clean sheet through their first two weeks before conceding their first sack of the season against Wake Forest)

This sort of helps lol - Have you watched a replay of the game? If so, watch just the line, we really lucked out early because of how quickly we came open for Mensah's first read. Otherwise, I can point out so many drives where either RR was bullrushed past Mensah at one point lol dude was stood up so bad, Bucanan forgot what to do in relation to a swim move and SJ just completely look for work, whiff on everyone and just finally fall on the pile....

I get it, we are young and it will take time, but for ***** sake some of this **** doesn't seem like it would be missed by two OL gurus.

Exactly this. In my dreams, I think Mario and armless are holding our best lineup out to sandbag across the early part of schedule. There is nothing else that makes sense to me other than this is the best we got, which is crazy to think and realize. The entire mood about this season is shifting downward for me rn, never thought we’d be this poor at LOS
