Ny Carr to Portal

Yes. And I was just DM'ing with another poster about this. It's not that Ny Carr is "bad" or "unwanted", but he wants to start playing now. This year. And UM needs some more senior-level WRs who give Beck a chance to maximize his one year.

Unfortunately, patience is in limited supply.

I know it's the wild west and everyone is shuffling players everywhere but at some point you gotta sign elite kids and develop them. I don't like this at all.

IMO this is different than Patterson. Similar in that their true freshmen seasons are not indicative of how their careers will go. Most kids are the same. But with Patterson, he didn't play much over a who's who of complete ******* clowns in the secondary, and when he did play, he looked like he was on another planet.

Carr didn't get much playing time behind several kids who are likely going to be NFL players, or at least very good college players, and when he did play, he looked competent.

At some point, not all portal entries are Miamis fault too. Kids can leave for a ton of reason. (Money, playing time, the school, distance from home, culture fit, asked to leave).

Not every scenario is a net negative and Miamis fault. Don’t you think Miami wishes they could sign every kid and just develop them all and they all love and don’t want to leave Miami? On top of those factors, kids have agents, families, friends, former teammates in their ears.

Do you know what transpired for this. He could want to leave on his own. Should Miami open a blank check book and beg him to stay so they can develop him. Sounds like bad business for several reasons.

It’s not always that simple.

We were associated with Pena for a reason. Not much on him during spring despite others at his position group being mentioned. Talk about going to the portal for more than one WR. Easy read

5 years ago I’d be upset about this. Today this is the new normal.

Idk if it’s as much “evaluations sucking” as it is, Miami just can’t afford to pay these high level kids for 2 or 3 years for them not to be impact right away. **** Carr prob got paid more than Peña did in 2024.

Then you factor in the kids wanting to play… There’s unlimited portal entries now. This is CFB in 2025.

Better sign someone and make a splash. Our receiving group is not going to be good enough currently

Reality also is..Beck didnt come here to help mold our young WRs and give them on-the-job training. Its a one year deal and he wants proven guys around him. Right now, the only "proven" guy we have is CJ Daniels and he was out half of the spring. Everyone else will be learning on the fly. (Trader, Ray Ray, Toney). No good if you ask me and im sure Mario and Dawson knew it. A guy like Carr probably saw the writing on the wall.

Surprised he couldnt carve out a role in that "Jacolby George" vacated spot. Maybe he was **** bent on being a slot and if that is true..it is crowded there right now.
Oh he wanted the slot role? Baby Jesus might have that all but locked up already

Ny Carr liked Jojo’s comment

Wasted him trying to push him into the slot and not let him just be a burner. We have no deep passing attack and Dawson really never has. Wasn't a good fit.
Underrated observation.

We need some fresh minds on the offensive side of the ball, and I realize that's a crazy thing to say given what the offense just did last year, but Dawson's concepts leave a lot to be desired.

We need an offensive brain trust.

if Dawson can get us remotely close offensively with beck and get beck back to his 2023 season, hes gonna be an HC anyways so well likely be losing him regardless

You got a point. **** but then you realize Brown jumped 42 inches and ran a 4.4 at combine lol
