Now that the dust is settling... Next’s Year...?

What are the expectations and thoughts on/for next year? For funsies here are mine...
  • The floor this year was 10 wins and he just met that. I don't have a lot of confidence that we will win our bowl game, especially if Shadeur plays in CU's game and we play them. If Cam somehow plays (VERY UNLIKELY), then it's a game. Point is, my floor for this year (and I think for a lot of people), was 10 wins and by golly, he did accomplish that - BARELY - but he did get there and that counts for something.
  • Whether Mario helps him find a soft landing or is forced to publicly fire him, Guidry is 100% gonzo and with the young talent on D coming back and the expected portal additions, we will be back to being better than average on D. How much better is based on the DC he brings in, but we're at the bottom and we're not hiring Al's BF, so we will be better.
  • Floor for wins next year is 9 wins. Even if it requires the post-season to get there, I believe he needs to and will get to 9 wins. Absent of 9 wins, the slow death spiral will juuuuuust start to begin. If Mario wants to stay here, and of course build the champion team he desires, he will HAVE to find 9 wins next season. Outside of that, I really do think the vultures will justifiably be circling over head. More than likely, in the absence of 9 wins next year, he is almost certainly going to be out the following year barring some Cinderella season. He needs 9 wins.
  • The QB situation: I believe that they will bring in a QB if for no other reason than for sake of numbers. Having said that, there has been a decent amount of smoke regarding them being happy with Emory. Obviously, whoever is the OC and the kind of O they like to call will have a huge impact on the direction of that position room, but all things being equal, I think that unlike with Cam, when they bring in a QB this time, it will be a real competition and my way too early prediction is that Emory will win it. I could absolutely be wrong on this, but that's my best guess and I'd be happy with it.
  • Our OL took 3/5 of the season to finally get good again at the run game. Even losing Rivers and our center, our OL will be cured, seasoned and a top 5 unit.
  • Justin Scott will be an All ACC DT barring injury. That kid is the actual goods and he will be a leader in bringing our D back to at least good if not better.
  • Hot take, as an overall unit, next years WR starters will be as good if not better than this year's. JoJo, Horton and the speedster from GA who was a frosh this year and I'm too lazy to hunt down his name. Yes, this year's group was a vet group and X is an all time great, but the overall athleticism of next year's starters will give our O the over the top speed and threat that we didn't really floss too much this year.
  • We need to use our TE's more and if we do, we will benefit greatly, There's a version of this, where we crush D's with a mixture of heavy sets and over the top speed finesse sets. If handled correctly, we will have another top 15 O.
  • Since this has been longer than I originally intended, I'll wrap it up with a way too early but broad (to hedge my bets) record prediction of 10 wins. Mario is a flawed coach (a perfect one doesn't exist), but he continues to make good changes and improve the team. So far, I'm still riding with Mario until such a time as it is obvious that we need to go in a different direction.
    • Next year will be better than many cynics think, but we won't be a serious NC contender. 10 wins and a much stronger recruiting year, and the slow Mario build is still justified. There will be championship expectations in 26', but one season at a time.
    • No less than 9 wins and verifiable signs of growth. This or the inevitable death spiral begins...

Isn't that what our defenses of old were built on?

Yes. Nebraska back then was the largest, strongest group in college football - and there were entire pages after pages of articles on their weight rooms and the huge guys on the team.

We were determined - but much smaller - but quicker. I watched that game all excited - and we went toe to toe with the very biggest and best in the nation.

We won our first National when our defense stopped them in a close game.

They had size and strength - we had speed and power.

Next year the acc should have 3 play 4 just to boost one of their records against ranked teams.

Next year’s success around here is like the “ Free beer tomorrow “ you see in bars….Never seems to get here.

We need difference makers on defense. LB, CB, S

If we have a decent Qb who doesn’t make mistakes, a strong OLine and RB group we will be fine on offense. Cam Ward was great and exciting to watch, but we don’t need a cam Ward every year to win if we have a solid stout defense and strong running game with a QB who doesn’t make mistakes.

I expect Horton to be WR1 next year. Maybe bring in one more veteran WR for experience. But I believe JOjo and Carr will be good.

Please show me where these 9 wins are coming from next year as I don't see it. Notre Dame, Florida, Syracuse, Louisville, NC State at home and VT, SMU and Pitt on the road

which game do you not see us as the favorite to win before the season starts, besides ND?

This is some revisionist history. No one was saying 10 wins before this season. People said 9 wins and it was a good season, now all of sudden the FLOOR was 10 wins. GTFO.

Oddsmakers had the win total at 9.5 +/-. The majority had the Canes in the ACCCG. Forget the odds on winning it, but it was a high percentage. It was a failed season due to coaching starting with the HC. As for next season, much depends on who the QB and DC are. If it's Emory, plus Guidry, 7-5.

Do you believe that recruiting high school players at a high level is how you build winning programs? If so, you should be excited for next year. A majority of these star recruits that everyone wanted will finally be playing next year.

If you don’t believe that recruiting builds championship teams, then you likely never cared for Mario and you’re expecting us to suck.

If you’re really big on recruiting but you still think we’re going to suck, you need to make up your mind on whether recruiting is the most important part of college football or not.

9 wins? Lmao

We will be lucky to win 7 games.
Not sure how anyone can predict that without seeing a single move in the portal. If miami doesn't make meaningful moves in the portal for QB, DB and DL then ya 7 wins for sure. Just not sold emory can lead miami to where they need to go. Guess we'll this. This was def the Year to do something tho and they failed

I can’t speak to oddsmakers, but no one on this site had us at 10 wins. And most press had us at highest 3rd in the ACC. Most had FSU favored to win the ACC before the season.

Year four
And the expedition is a 9 win season ?
Not double digits and playoff birth
By year four it should be playoff or bust
Agreed. Sorry, but if he can't get us at least 9 wins and a playoff birth in year 4, then we know empirically that he's not the guy. No more half measures with this program. We deserve to win and we're finally spending the money to win.

10 wins or there's some serious doubts about his future. If he goes 7-5 like some on here have said, we don't need to see anymore - he should be fired before the bowl game in that scenario. And, this is coming from a Mario supporter (not slurper).

Agreed. I think we should win if we have Emory+ a decent D and improved special teams. That combo should get us 10 wins.

Not reading all that but it’s still a bowl game to be played, multiple portal windows left, second signing day, and spring as well. Too many things happening before the season even starts. Waste of time predicting or guessing how next year will go.

Just curious, what would not be a waste of time on a fans' sports team chatroom? Do you suggest no activity until the next game? What's your version of a properly used Canesinsight?
