These two games will define the progress of this team over the past 20 games. The program is heading in the right direction but needs both of these signature wins. Lets see how CMR prepares for VT and what game plan he has to attack the VT offense. Make sure we do not have to burn TO's unnecessarily, make the right decisions on the sidelines, and spread the defense. The play calling has been mediocre and when you get paid $$$$ like Richt it's time to produce in big games. I believe we are going to win but no more losses in MUST WIN situations. GO CANES!

Quite honestly the worst take I have ever seen on CIS. The VT game is for the Coastal and a spot on the ACCCG - a game we have never played in since joining the ACC. The ND game has serious CFP implications for both teams and is a game that, historically, drives deep into the racial/class divides in this country. Tom Rinaldi and ESPN are SALIVATING to do a piece on "Catholics v Convicts" next weekend.

Both of you are settling for mediocrity and the games with ND & VT are irrelevant? You must be from the Shannon/Golden era. You weren't sitting in the stands for all the games in the 80's, 90's and 2000's. If we lose these games it is NOT a successful season and a repeat of last season. THESE ARE MUST WINS and we have the talent to win. I don't think Howard, JJ, Dennis,, or Butch would be looking for a split or accepting 2 losses.

How is 9-2 not a successful season? That is EXACTLY what everyone predicted before the season. Now you want to move the goalposts after the fact on what constitutes a successful season? That is patently unfair to the team.

I think 1-1 is what we end up. Even though we are undefeated ND has definitely had a better season to date. With that being said We have not played our best game yet. I hope our Oline gives us a chance.

You cannot be a real Miami fan if you are claiming that the VT game is irrelevant. This is the most important game on our schedule. Not sure where you saw that “everyone” predicted a 9-2 record or said that they would be satisfied with not making the ACCCG. Most on here were expecting a 10 win season and a trip to Charlotte. This weeks game is the furthest thing from irrelevant that I can possibly think of as it relates to our season. This game is everything to accomplish the goals set by the team and pretty much all of its fans. To think otherwise is just...wrong.

I’ll have to go back and read my post but I am fairly certain that I wasn’t placing blame on anyone for anything and I know I didn’t say a **** thing about Richt. The Arky St game being cancelled has nothing to do at all with getting to the ACCCG. Are you saying that you would have been happy if we had beaten Arky St and not make it to Charlotte because it would have meant we won 10 games? If so then you aren’t a real Miami fan and you certainly weren’t around when people were making their predictions about the season. Everyone had the Arky St penciled in as a win but had no relevance at all on the season as a whole.

1. In no way whatsoever are these major games irrelevant. That's just ridiculous. Two major top ten matchups against quasi-rivals with a fair amount of history? Games that have major implications in ranking, playoff contention, recruiting, momentum, and pride? GTFOH

2. Human beings have the capacity to... wait for it... adjust expectations as time goes on. Just because some people "expected" two losses going into the season doesn't mean they didn't also hope for better. The college football landscape - as well as the raw potential of much of our personnel - makes it completely reasonable to adjust both hopes and expectations upward.

WTF? I think you need to look in the mirror because what you are describing is not only irrelevant to this season but actually impossible. There is no undefeated team in the ACC and yes, losing to Pitt and not winning the coastal is a complete and utter FAIL

The goal was to win the coastal, if we don't win the coastal the season is a disappointment. The coaches will tell you that, Richt has been saying it all year. That makes Va Tech the most important game of the year with how everything has played out. We win and we win the coastal.

Not completely true, I remember most folks claiming 9-2 at worst but WITH winning the Coastal. If we lose to VT & ND...we will need help from other ACC foes to knock off VT one more time...basically behind the 8 ball and I don't see VT losing to their remaining opponents, just take a look at their remaining schedule. Maybe GT beats them?!?

Stop with the revisionist, "what if" mierda, dude. Stop throwing out fake hypotheticals that are way off the table. Most folks on here predicted a 10-2 record with winning the Coastal as the lowest metric for success this season. You can go back to my post history and pretty much most folks on here and you will find this narrative...why are you doing this? Do the research first or trust your fellow Cane fans on here concerning what they stated at the beginning of the season. No more fake news hypotheticals. It's simple: we beat VT and the remaining teams in the Coastal and mission accomplished. ND is icing on the cake at this point, but a game we need to win as a program trying to get back to our glory days.

Since we're so dumb ask UF coach does winning the SEC east two years in a row matter? It's about winning especially the right games. It's the same at every big institution. It's what got Gene Chizik fired at Auburn not beating Bama. We need to beat FSU and VT, OSU needs to beat Michigan. UF needs to beat FSU and viceversa etc. etc. All games matter but losing to your rivals will get you fired quick.
