I’ve found it interesting that so many pundits have ND winning the NC. It’s all based on how good they looked roasting Syracuse, Navy, Stanford etc.

Its fascinating how national pundits consistently reward box-score stat-padding while ignoring what happens when teams actually face high-leverage competition.

1. Hanging 70 against Syracuse, 56 against Arkansas and Purdue points made for great TV graphics, but context matters: these were some of the worst defenses in CFB. There were word circumstances also. Syracuse for instance was depleted by injuries, playing a walk-on freshman quarterback, and coughed up three non-offensive touchdowns before the offense broke a sweat. It wasn't an offensive clinic; it was an opponent collapsing.

2. The Missing Trench Pressure The narrative says ND has the nation's premier defense, but when facing competent offensive lines, the pass rush went quiet:

  • Carson Beck: Clean pocket on 85%+ of dropbacks, only 1 fourth-quarter sack.
  • Marcel Reed: 0 sacks, comfortable pocket to throw the game-winner with 13 seconds left.
  • Jayden Maiava: 300+ passing yards in back-to-back matchups with clean throwing lanes.

3. The Reality of the Offense Against Real Defenses When opposing fronts forced ND out of rhythm without giving up easy blitz beaters, Carr’s production cratered:

In four matchups against ranked Power 4 opponents, his numbers fell to 6.3 yards per pass, 6 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions (compared to 10.2 YPA and an 18:1 TD-to-INT split against unranked teams).

Meanwhile, Miami wins 7 straight games beating three top-10 teams in postseason play navigating true trench battles and high-pressure late-game situations.

I guess the moral of the story is run the score up.

My disdain for ND is near Pedo State levels but like them or not that will be a tough game. I'll tell you this though, If ND gets down 10+ early it may be time to say good night Felicia Combs as I don't see them constantly throwing into that secondary and that DL running amok.

They're a talented team, certainly on defense.

But the Carr **** sucking by the media has gotten out of hand. I'd be surprised if their offense is as productive as it was last year. None of their WRs are impressive. Their OL ain't really all that vs elite DLs. And they have to replace two first round RBs.

Taking off my ND hater hat for a moment:

I think they’re well put together and well-coached, even though I’m not a fan of Chris Ash.

RBs are typically viewed as replaceable but I think it is fair to wonder what impact losing both Love and Price will have. When you look back on it, teams that have had similar duos at RB like USC with Bush/White, Arkansas with MacFadden and Felix Jones (and there have been other examples) saw a significant drop in offensive production the following year after losing them. Even Ohio State, losing Judkins and Henderson you saw a drop in offensive efficiency from 2024.

Love and Price combined for 34 TDs rushing/receiving last year btw.

They should be very good on defense. I expect Carr to have an excellent year and they’ll make mincemeat of that soft schedule, but I do wonder whether they’ll have any difference-makers at WR in the games that count.

ND is goingto lose 3 games this season and miss the playoffs.
