Notre Dame is one of the biggest names in college football. They’ve won games all over the country, but Miami has been a tougher spot. The Fighting Irish haven’t beaten the Hurricanes in Miami since 1977.

Every time they come down to play in Miami Gardens since then, it’s been the same story: the Canes send them packing. In the last six meetings at Miami, Notre Dame is 0-6. It doesn’t matter the decade or the coach, Miami has had its number at home for a while.

The Hurricanes will keep the streak alive.

We are going to punish Notre Dame from the crowd to the defense. And most likely win one way or the other.
 
As I look at the schedule, I can't avoid thinking that this game determines Miami's success this year. Win against ND, whether a nail biter or a runaway, and the team goes into a relatively easy schedule with confidence and swagger. UF is ranked and Louisville is usually tough, but they play at Miami. At SMU will be a test, but the team should have gelled and be playing like a top 5 team by then. Not so worried about the rest of the schedule, barring injuries and poor coaching decisions.

Lose to ND, and the questions will arise and it will be difficult to play a dominant season after missing on a great opportunity for the team to make a strong statement.

Personally, I hope Miami crushes ND just on basic principles. Ditto FSU.

I guess you could look at it that way. Either Miami makes the leap to championship potential with a win over ND, or it continues as a decent team with a following that remembers the 5 championships. Mario has to show the college football world that Miami is relevant this year when polls rank the team in the top 10. Losing to #6 ND will bring out all of the naysayers who doubted the high ranking. It matters if Miami hopes to recruit future talent, either from high school or through the portal. Fork in the road? I suppose it is.

Totally agree. That “elite” defense got exposed every time it faced a decent offense, also they have no one who will replace the production of their bell cow Leonard. He was basically their short yardage back, averaging 4.9 yards per carry.

Miami’s offense will overwhelm them, Miami will get the early lead and never look back.
 
I was at the 1977 ND-Miami game on the Orange Bowl Poly Turf watching Joe Montana wax the Canes (like every other visiting team did back in the day).

The 1981 ND game on Thanksgiving Friday when Jim Kelly and company ended the game by halftime began the streak.
