Notre Dame AD: ACC did “permanent damage”

All of this being said, Miami may want to think about discussing with ND an alliance for looking to the next realignment.

It's a matchup that always brings a tv bonanza. There's leverage to it.

I have said many times here, that Miami should look to becoming independent and exploring a stand alone media deal similar or even with NBC like ND. Someone said would anyone want to be like ND and jealous of the situation they have? Absolutely. To what I believe is your point here, could they both "align" as independents, and pull in a few others and form their own "independent" league. That would be very interesting, and could collectively position them for when it comes down to the Mega 2 left.
That's what I have been thinking for a while in my previous leave the ACC postings.

What kind of world am I living in where Paul Finebaum and Stephen A are making clear, coherent, logical points actually on the right side of an argument? Paul even brought up the COVID year gift the ACC gave them and they both shredded ND for acting this way because of that.

That new moderator, though, oof, she is awful. She's trying to be a talking head instead of being a moderator. She's been on the ND train this whole time and is still defending them.
The ND vs. Miami argument was a gift to the SEC. In a down year where all of its teams looked mediocre and multiple teams played significant portions of the season with no head coach, SEC got 5 spots (almost half the field and 4/7 at-large bids!) along with 3 home games. If you went by the FPI rankings, the SEC would have 2 teams in the field. Or under SP+ SEC would have 3. They are seriously overrepresented. That is the real controversy but the media is wagging the dog with the ND/Miami stuff.

I didnt read all 9 pages of this thread but here's my question:

Does the ACC hold any cards related to ND being in the ACC for all of the other sports? I.e.; Is ND's participation in the ACC non-revenue sports contingent upon them scheduling some football games? If it isnt then its yet another galactic failure of the ACC.

My belief is that ND would be in a world of hurt trying to schedule women's sports and other non-revenue generating men's sports in the current mega-conference era. i can envision a scenario where they'd have to join the MAC or something similar to keep the Title IX animals at bay.
I have no idea but I would guess if ND tried pulling the football scheduling card, the conference members would probably vote them out, especially after their response the last 24 hours.

Although I'd rather be in the SEC

For sure!

... isn't this a great time for ND and UM to join forces and get into the big10? Doesn't Big10 want to be like the SEC and get 4-5 teams in the playoff EVERY YEAR? ND and apparently now UM can be playoff contenders for years to come. OSU, Indiana, Mich, USC, UM, ND, Penn State, maybe others. That's equal to or better than SEC: bama, lsu, UGA, TX, TAMU, OU. Ole miss will fade back into mediocrity.

The SEC makes far more sense for travel reasons alone, but the Big Ten would be much, much better than the sinking ship UM is stuck on right now.

Assuming the SEC doesn't come calling, could definitely see Miami-ND joining the B1G in tandem like we saw with USC-UCLA and UW-Oregon

10 years ago yeah I’d say 100% but the way conferences are moving to 9 game conference opponents mandatory. You still want some cupcakes to fill in… plus after this season where it looked like you might be hoed out of the “big win” out of this big matchup simply because the two teams weren’t side by side why would teams reach out to independents like us or ND if it only ***** out that team and it’s conference members out of payout

Every year someone is left out that has an argument for not getting in. This year its ND Miami has sat in the same chair more than once. Go Canes

This is not really accurate.

If ND joins any other conference, they owe an exit fee to us. So unless ND is fine with playing G5 teams from now on as an Indy, they would have to pay the conference.

The TV ratings ND brings is a total myth. Numbers show a very clear picture of that.
What's inaccurate - that ND doesn't help ACC TV ratings?

This may not be a popular opinion, but to me this is just more evidence that Phillips is a light weight.

ND is a member of the ACC in every sport except football, hockey, and rugby (the latter two I am presuming the ACC does not have). To publicly campaign for one conference member over another was predictably going to expose you to MAJOR fallout while doing nothing to move the needle with the committee. This kind of thing should be done through surrogates in the media and behind closed doors.

Moreover, when Phillips saw the nightmare tiebreaker scenarios potentially unfolding about 5 weeks ago, he should have convened an emergency meeting and put a new tiebreaker system on the table and strong armed the schools into passing it. Instead, he fiddled while Rome burned and rolled out an embarassment of an ACCCG that very nearly got the ACC shut out from the playoff altogether.

I understand there is no sympathy for ND, but Phillips is not a serious commissioner and he needs to go. He's playing Geometry Dash while Sankey is playing chess.
This is why I'm asking today if Phillips is still employed. He has to be fired. I hope every AD in the ACC is mad at the way this was handled and will ask him to resign.

During the ACC championship trophy presentation, he just stood there like a goof, they didn't have him present the trophy or speak. At that point, why was he even on the stage?

I hope they sue!

To say what exactly?

Finebaum ripped them up and down. Whether you like him or not everything said was true. Called them laughing stock for refusing bowl game. ND’s big ego has been deflated a bit.

They were 4-1 in the ACC. I'm assuming it wouldn't have been all that hard to beat three additional teams.

So...UVa vs. ND...

Exactly, if you project their 5 games to 9-10 games, they would be 6-2 like the rest of everyone and they probably would be stuck behind Duke due to the moronic tiebreaker also.

I hope that if ND is actually planning on exit of the association or canceling some games, then that facilitates the end of the ACC without an exit fee for UM. I would be gloriously happy they do it. More power to them. Let them foot the bill for our legal fees if we actually did leave. I hope they do it and win.
