I feel the need to repeat this for the 1000th time. Nothing "really" changes simply by firing Al Golden.
First, our Admin and BOTs are incompetent micromanagers. Since 2001, this group has loved to throw their input/control into every decision. That is why you have the following (football only):
1. Coker's Second Extension,
2. Hiring RS,
3. RS's Extension,
4. Hiring Al,
5. Extending Al, and
6. Since 2005, we're 75-55 (41-39).
And let's not forget about all the incompetent ADs during that period.
Sure, Shalala leaving was tremendous for our program. It was a start of "possible change". But let's not forget this guy Stuart A. Miller (see below if you never heard of him, Footnote #1 ). These people don't know what is best for football. They don't know how to run, nor should they run, a football program. What they need to do is learn this lesson (the evidence is clear) and fix the situation (see #2 ).
2. How do we fix the situation? It really is simple.
Step 1: Properly Fund the Football Program (see Footnote #2 ). No more mom and pop or poor Miami. It isn't true. We're simply cheap. Don't be a Potato and believe this bullchit mom and pop story. We have money, we just don't spend it. We nickel and dime our coaches and then we end up having to spend a lot more buying them out. Our last 3 coaches (assuming Al does) will receive buy-outs. Perhaps we should pay them more on the front-end rather than wasting money on the back-end.
We make more money than we ever had, thanks to joining the ACC, ACC new TV deal and Adidas. We ALSO received a windfall from Maryland leaving the ACC but none of this matters if we don't spend the money wisely or at all. Our decision makers believe that it would simply be a waste to spend more on the department. You would think they would have noticed a difference after hiring Coach L but maybe not. We bring in Coach L and you already increase revenues from ticket sales and donations, sure you spend a little more money, but you make a lot more money. You also elevate the quality of the product.
So we need to properly fund the football program.
Step 2: New AD with total control. This is more important than simply bringing in a new coach. It starts with a passionate and competent AD who can run athletics. This person is not Blake James. This person wasn't Einhorst or Hocutt either. This person needs to have the ability to oversee athletics with a focus on fundraising and a plan for our own stadium (not for today). This person will set the standards and be allowed to implement them.
Whoever they bring in should hire the next coach.
Step 3: The New Coach. This new coach MUST be a "sure" thing; that means no college coordinators. It also MUST not be one of the following names:
1. Schiano,
2. Kiffin,
3. Strong, and
4. Cristobal
Simply by mentioning a name above you are admitting that you're a Potato. Which is fine. The AD needs to bring in a big name and pay them.
