I feel the need to repeat this for the 1000th time. Nothing "really" changes simply by firing Al Golden.

First, our Admin and BOTs are incompetent micromanagers. Since 2001, this group has loved to throw their input/control into every decision. That is why you have the following (football only):

1. Coker's Second Extension,
2. Hiring RS,
3. RS's Extension,
4. Hiring Al,
5. Extending Al, and
6. Since 2005, we're 75-55 (41-39).

And let's not forget about all the incompetent ADs during that period.

Sure, Shalala leaving was tremendous for our program. It was a start of "possible change". But let's not forget this guy Stuart A. Miller (see below if you never heard of him, Footnote #1 ). These people don't know what is best for football. They don't know how to run, nor should they run, a football program. What they need to do is learn this lesson (the evidence is clear) and fix the situation (see #2 ).

2. How do we fix the situation? It really is simple.

Step 1: Properly Fund the Football Program (see Footnote #2 ). No more mom and pop or poor Miami. It isn't true. We're simply cheap. Don't be a Potato and believe this bullchit mom and pop story. We have money, we just don't spend it. We nickel and dime our coaches and then we end up having to spend a lot more buying them out. Our last 3 coaches (assuming Al does) will receive buy-outs. Perhaps we should pay them more on the front-end rather than wasting money on the back-end.

We make more money than we ever had, thanks to joining the ACC, ACC new TV deal and Adidas. We ALSO received a windfall from Maryland leaving the ACC but none of this matters if we don't spend the money wisely or at all. Our decision makers believe that it would simply be a waste to spend more on the department. You would think they would have noticed a difference after hiring Coach L but maybe not. We bring in Coach L and you already increase revenues from ticket sales and donations, sure you spend a little more money, but you make a lot more money. You also elevate the quality of the product.

So we need to properly fund the football program.

Step 2: New AD with total control. This is more important than simply bringing in a new coach. It starts with a passionate and competent AD who can run athletics. This person is not Blake James. This person wasn't Einhorst or Hocutt either. This person needs to have the ability to oversee athletics with a focus on fundraising and a plan for our own stadium (not for today). This person will set the standards and be allowed to implement them.

Whoever they bring in should hire the next coach.

Step 3: The New Coach. This new coach MUST be a "sure" thing; that means no college coordinators. It also MUST not be one of the following names:

1. Schiano,
2. Kiffin,
3. Strong, and
4. Cristobal

Simply by mentioning a name above you are admitting that you're a Potato. Which is fine. The AD needs to bring in a big name and pay them.

Cristobal and Kiffin suck, but what's wrong with Schiano? He did a great job at Rutgers and now look at them! Also has SFL recruiting ties and has been at Miami before. He's young and willing to adapt to the NEW CFB. I agree with pretty much everything you said, but Schiano would be a GREAT hire and would have us back to 10+ wins in 3 years tops.

Schiano would be a good hire. Defense would at least not be playing patty cake at the point of attack with Schiano

Please defend Schiano. I would love to hear why he is great.

An illustration of one of your points: UF funded (or allocated funds to) and built an indoor facility in less than a year. Foley actually has influence with boosters. It's so frustrating being in g'ville and watching the debacle going on with Miami

Any coach with "South Florida recruiting ties" as their #1 selling point should be disqualified from the jump (Cristobal, Strong). I don't want to see or hear those words mentioned about any candidate. Same goes for tired retreads (Kiffin, Schiano) with plenty of stink left on them from their last failed head-coaching gig. No Golden's, Randy Edsall's, or Marc Trestman's this time around.

Open the f***ing checkbook and make Tom Herman an offer he can't refuse. Apologize to Butch Davis for nonsensically holding a grudge for so long for making an upward move in his career and heading to the NFL. Stop being penny-pinching pieces of s*** and make a power move for the first time in forever.

Hire a savage coach who can develop talent, adapt his schemes to the players he has at his disposal, and restore the Miami brand. Then watch those South Florida recruits we desperately need line up around the block to come play for a winner who demands greatness, not Coastal titles.

I find pipe dream posts like this funny. My cane brotha, the University of Miami HAS NEVER paid top dollar for a coach. EVER. EVER EVER EVER. The problem is the our BOT are full of old idiots who still hold true to the saying that, "Coaches dont make UM, the players make UM"..Meaning they feel they can get any coach to come in here and win as long as he can recruit and bring in a competent but cheap staff.

Howard did it. Jimmy did it. Dennis did it. Butch did it. None of those guys were paid top dollar to coach here yet they all had success. Problem is that formula doesn't work anymore. You need to pay to play in the NCAA now. And I have come to the conclusion that its just not an option because the BOT just doesn't want to do it.

Best we will be able to do is a Mario Christobal/Ed Orgeron type hire. Local guys with ties to the community that loves the program and wont want to break the bank. Obviously Butch Davis is the star of the show and would be the perfect hire IMO. But it seems like that is a pipe dream too and I have no idea why.

Pipe dream post?

Tom Herman's buyout if he leaves Houston before February 2018: $2.25 million
Jim McElwain's buyout at Colorado State before he left to UF: $7.5 million due within 30 days

UF and Colorado State negotiated so that UF would have to pay $3 million over 6 years. McElwain agreed to pay CSU $2 million over an undisclosed period of time. The two programs also agreed to play at The Swamp sometime between 2017-2020, with CSU receiving $2 million for the game.

You're absolutely right that UM's admin is notoriously cheap. They're pathetic. And if Miami isn't even willing to pay or negotiate a buyout like Herman's, then they should just fold the program instead of turning to Cristobal AKA Golden Part II.

Thank you for this post. It sums up my feelings 100%, but in a concise way that I struggle to get across sometimes. Should be REQUIRED reading on this site.

Hire Bob Stitt's from Montana he can be to Miami what Chip Kelly was to Oregon. The best part is Bob Stitt makes less than $200K now. So he would come to Miami for $1.2million easily.

Howard Schnellenberger was an NFL HC and Superbowl winning coordinator. WTF are you talking about?? It's the equivalent of hiring Chip Kelly right now, and we did it back before we had one tenth the purchasing power we now have.

our defense would be awesome to watch with Schiano but does he make us compete for championships? because that's all I care about. RINGS. and the answer is probably no

Buddy..you are so angry and quick to attack you arent reading..I said UM wasnt paying top dollar for a coach, I never said they wouldnt go after a top dollar coach. Howard was not making top dollar here buddy. Why you think he left for the USFL so fast? Not the NFL..The USFL!..

Jimmy wanted to renegotiate his contract after his 3rd year here! He was making pennys. That was my point. You pulled out credentials. Thats great and all...but if you think this administration is paying $4-5M a year for a coach PLUS pay top dollar for whatever coordinators they want..You mide as well stop following the team, aint gonna happen. **** Clemson is paying Brent Venables $1M+ a year just to run the defense!!! You think these cheap ******** are going to shell out that type of cash?

Dont do it to yourself. Dont set yourself up just to be let down again..When Golden is fired and the big money names get thrown out there JUST LIKE THE LAST TWO TIMES WE HAD COACHING VACANCIES AND ENDED UP WITH DUDS (shannon and Golden)..they will all say they are not interested and we will end up with a Ed Orgeron/Mario Christobal type and the fanbase will once again go ape$hit...
