This happens in every thread. We haven't won anything yet has nothing to do with whether or not people enjoyed the playoff run.

It was a great run, but we lost the Natty. Job is not finished.

Those people probably weren’t even watching during the bad times. If they were, they would have been on cloud nine watching last year’s run.

To pretend like winning the Cotton Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl in the same season while exorcising the demon that was Ohio State was “not winning anything yet” is simply asinine. I was watching when Miami lost to Middle Tennessee at home, so I’ll take last year over that BS every single time.

Yep. Last year my kids finally saw what a real Miami team looked like. I was so happy for them.

Unless they are a wandering troll visiting, everyone here has been watching through the bad times, because other than the playoff run, there have only really been bad times for 2 decades.
 
Same here. 34 years old. Started going to the OB at 7. So 1998 season. 50 yard line row 2. My dad used to put me on his shoulders so I could actually see and you could hear the helmets clanging together every snap. My brother was born in 2000 so he’s never experienced Miami being the bully. I love where we’re at, but the expectations are nerve wracking. The week to week emotional rollercoaster of the playoff run last year is something I still don’t think I’ve come down from. I’m honestly happy the first 3 games are the way they are because I haven’t even started to bring my tailgate stuff out. Almost like a pre season ramp up. But I’m getting there.

My seats were 50 yard line, Row 2 when we moved to JRS. I sat directly on the 50. I called the Hurricane Club when they put my seats there to try to get the seats pushed up higher and they laughed that a fan was complaining about being transitioned from the OB to the 50 yard line at JRS.

Exactly. What really ****es me off is how the university allowed this atrocity to go on for 2 decades. They couldn’t have cared less about football until they realized how much cash it could bring in for the university. They can thank Mario for that.

Sounds like there’s an entire generation of us who barely remember the incredible, but short run from 2000-2003 and have been waiting for another dynasty ever since. 23 years of darkness. Mario vanquished it all last year. Only one of our demons remain.

Those of you who are young will never know the magic of the Orange Bowl at night watching the Canes at home. I had the good fortune to attend a day game against FSU, which we won, and a night game against Tulsa.

Sadly, I missed the 1989 Notre Dame game, but I understand that those who were there say that the sound and noise of that game at the OB were never duplicated by any Super Bowl or Dolphins game, especially after the Third and 43 Play and Tiger Clark's INT.

Yes, it's true what they said about the bathrooms.
 
My first Canes game was September 1979 against Louisville, we won 24 -12. I got tickets for my 12th birthday and even at that age I loved the U. My friends were all Lizard and Criminole fans because their parents went there and looked down on any other school. Snobs! I grew up in Lauderdale Manors (IYKYK) and said **** that, gimme the school with a chip on their shoulder. I've seen every natty, and all of the ups and downs. From '79 to '01 we kicked some serious *** but also fell way short of expectations in other years. However we always found a way to get back to the top. After '02, I kept expecting something like that to happen again but nothing great ever materialized. After a few years it became the new normal to hope for 9 wins. Yay! Dang, that was brutal. I went from watching the games to lurking on my phone. Yeah, we had 2017 but it wasn't until I took my daughter to Tuscaloosa for a college visit in Fall 2018 when I saw what we need to do to get back. The campus is beautiful and the first thing they told me was "football money". We needed this approach to be byke! (My daughter chose to go the U, BTW!) Well, here we are: an elite organization with a prodigal son leading the mission. Mario has built something the CFB world never saw coming. **** it feels good, we fuccin again!
 
37. First year was 2007 when i attended UM as a freshman. Last year of the OB so i got to "experience" it so some extent. 5-7 that year including 0-44 vs UVA as the last game at the OB (sickening). Explicitly remember being on a bus back to the metro with some seniors who *****ed they had 4 terrible years (03-07). I thought this was a blip and rest of my years would be great. My 4 years (07-11) were just as horrendous. Nearly 20 years of mediocrity and heartbreak overall until last year. Always believed because of south florida talent we had a chance to resurrect. Thank god for Mario. Took my dad to the Chip last year, walked out gutted but still an amazing season. Will feel even more glorious when we do win one after having come so close after all this time. Lets ****** go.

We had a good season last year but we lost the most important game. It is what it is. I guess some folks were raised on participation trophies but to me, the only team that deserves a victory lap is after last season is Indiana.

As for Miami, we have unfinished business and that should be the attitude. Not oh look how far we’ve come, we have improved but haven’t actually accomplished **** yet. Stay hungry
 
I told my kids, who grew up in the wilderness years, at multiple point last year that this season “was the way that things were always supposed to be.”

In those darker seasons, I kept waiting for Miami to turn the corner. Looking for hope of a restoration when in retrospect it wasn’t there.

Like when we beat Oklahoma at home in 2009 and were 3-1, and ultimately starting 5-1 and being a top 10 team.

Or going on the road to play Ohio State in 2010, as a top 10 team and that year supposidely being when Miami made its leap back to prominence.

Or 2018, after Miami had finished 10-3 the previous year and had its best recruiting class in a decade.

Or 2021, getting ready to play Alabama. ON paper, this was Miami’s most talented roster in quite some time with double the blue chip players that we had in 2012. And we’d won 9 games the previous year.
 
last season felt like the reward for the misery of watching during the down years
