Not Players. Not Coaches. The Real Root of the Problem.

You are the one creating the “culture” narrative. Culture could explain losing to a comparable team. Culture does not explain losing to a team that’s not even in a Power 5 conference.
Culture absolutely explains - part of this massive failure - especially when you’ve routinely lost to G5 teams in years past. This is not something new, it’s happened consistently and with different rosters. A culture of mediocrity breeds mediocre results. Every team that’s been where we are now had to completely revamp their culture to succeed. It’s not the reason for every failure, but it is a huge part of it. Unfortunately, this won’t change overnight.

Two things can be true.

It takes time to build a winner.
We should not be losing to MTSU year 1.

And spare me what happened in prior seasons. None of that matters. This is a new regime. I appreciate you are trying to find excuses but this loss is not justifiable.

Miami knocked down the OB to go play in a stadium built on Indian burial grounds.
This program-killing move also coincided with the rise of the NFLU culture that kept us relevant for a while but has had a residual detrimental effect.

You won’t find anyone on this board saying this loss is justifiable. It’s as bad as it gets, we shouldn’t be losing to them. My point is that our past explains why we are the way we are right now. Yes, culture matters especially when you have a roster of guys that are used to losing to G5 teams. Not to mention you can look to just about any decent coach and see the struggles in year 1. Imho, I wanna see how this year pans out. It is a new regime and it’s only week 4. Want to see how they respond and adapt.

The last two weeks showed us exactly what we needed to see to gauge where we are as a program. ATM showed us we have talent and when motivated can play at a high level. MTS showed us the mental side of the puzzle that we are lacking. The mental piece (Probably the most important piece of culture) feeds the physical when it’s not a big game that is easy to get up for. I don’t believe the practices were high level this week or that the players were fully engaged because the culture tells us otherwise. Recruiting classes can change that along with some current players that MC has to identify. This will more than likely be a 3 year process and possibly 4. I do believe we have the right guy though.

Don’t overthink it. This isn’t a culture problem. Culture doesn’t explain losing to MTSU at home. This was bad, bad coaching.
This. Culture is what coaches blame when they have no answers for why they were completely out coached. Don’t get me wrong—there are likely problems with the culture that need to be fixed, but it does not excuse losing to a mid major team that lost to JMU 44 - 7. I hated Manny but you can’t tell me we lose to MTSU at home with Lashlee calling the plays.
