Norvell's buyout is....... $63 million

Norvell isn’t getting fired but his buyout isn’t $63m. That’s ridiculous

There was an article in the Tallahassee paper after he signed his new contract ... and it listed the BUYOUT by season .... that remained unchanged in the new contract ... it shows $6 million for the 2024 season as his buyout and it drops to $4M a year from now.
They will owe him 85% of his remaining contract, as @flcanesfan says

They do not have a 6 million buyout, it's 6 million this year plus 85% of remaining contract for a total of $63 million not including all the assistant coaches
Gotta think any good agent ain’t going to let their guy sign a huge contract with a chump change buyout.

Best part of last year FSU going undefeated and still getting left out of the playoffs lol Since then they haven't won a game and they extended Norvell out to 2031 lol He ain't getting fired anytime soon.

This is too good not to share re:Norvell....from ArtButMakeItSports Twitter:

He looked SOOOO lost last night. Going for it on 4th down at midfield in the 3rd quarter of a one possession game. Calling a **** reverse flea flicker just to get some yards. 21 rushing yards to BC's 263. Hasn't played a good passing QB yet. Complete desperation.

Woof.

That slick ******* Jimmy Sexton okey-doked FSU's decision makers into thinking Alabama wanted Norvell as Saban's replacement when DeBoer was the guy all along. So the suits in Tallahassee needlessly (and by a lot) overpaid on the buyout.

And now here the Noles are.

Amazing they didn't learn from A&M's fiasco with Jimbo Fisher

I am still trying to figure out how the heck did they go undefeated last year with him.

Now just two days into the start of the new season and they're talking about wanting him gone.

Comedy. Or maybe the Georgia game was the real comedy. And these last two games have been the encore.

Talk about the perfect storm for Mario….

Let's hope UM's decision-makers have learned from their counterparts in Gainesville and Tally.

Make the annual salary high relative to CMC's accomplishments. Keep the buyout reasonable.

Norvell's reliance on the portal has bit that program in the ***. FSU has not successfully landed blue-chip high school players at the level it did under Jimbo Fisher and it shows. For all of his faults, Fisher landed bigger fish and it paid off. You could see the talent differential when they played inferior opponents. It didn't feel that way in both games against GT and BC.

NIL matters and the difference between Uiagalelei and Cam Ward is staggering. Despite what any delusional FSU fans claimed before the start of the season, Ward was always a better QB, and by a large margin. UM landing Ward and FSU pivoting toward Uiagalelei has completely changed the trajectory of each program.

Really feels like UM has a great balance of impact portal players (Ward, Martinez, Kiko Mauigoa, Tyler Baron, etc.) along with players they've successfully recruited at the high school level and are developing (Francis Mauigoa, Anez Cooper, Mark Fletcher, Elija Lofton, etc.). Even some of the few remaining Diaz recruits that stuck around and bought in got some burn on Sunday.

Point is, talent acquisition and roster management cannot be limited exclusively to the portal. Factor that in with an FSU staff that can't recruit and very pedestrian NIL efforts, and it's a recipe for disaster.

I haven't read the contract, but it was explained to me that the 85% is if they fire him and the $6m is if another team wants to hire him away.

unless his agent is the dumbest SOB of all time, i cant imagine he negotiated a huge extension with a tiny buyout. No chance. I imagine that figure is the amount a new school would have to pay FSU to hire Norvell away.

If that is correct ... it is very good news for Miami as Norvell will be there for a few more seasons!!!
