I worked for Sears in Palatka, Florida in 2005. It was franchised out to a couple, the Crews. Husband and wife. I worked for them as their lawn and garden salesperson. Commission was banging. I was selling lawn tractors left and right. And then Lowes and Home Depot moved in. Business gone within a year after that.

Holy schidt dude. You actually spent time in Palatka? Wow. The only thing more surprising that a Canes fan lived/worked in Palatka is that the Home Depot and Lowes moved in back in 2005, not 2025.

For those who don't know, Palatka is a small town in Northern Florida, between Daytona and Jax, about 20 miles in from the Coast. I've driven through the town several times and it is a time warp. It's also creepy asf. Picture the small town in Alabama from My Cousin Vinny mixed with Deliverance and the town where The Bates Motel was located in Psycho; all inhabited by folks who look like Mama June from Honey BooBoo with the teeth of a rural Englishman with a meth addiction. I never pulled over while passing through there. Didn't matter if I had only fuel vapors left, I was waiting to pass through before I stopped at a gas station.

For comparative purposes, Doc Hollywood was filmed in Micanopy, about 50 miles west of Palatka. Similar vibe.

Grandma is from Palatka. She left in the 60s for Miami and never looked back
