I remember those days. The acorns and gems that Golden and others would find. And sometimes they completely worked out - which was cool when it happened and you saw these people over perform (like a Njoku). Texas had the same thing happen many years ago with Colt McCoy - he was a three star player brought in to be the backup to the higher ranked Snead and wound up being the long term starter.

The problem with the gems in today’s environment is that in a free transfer / NIL era - any team can poach them away. And if FSU’s NIL is drying up….

Manny would seem like a logical choice if keeps Duke above average. I’m just not sold that FSU would want to bring in a coach with similarities to Norvell’s personality and characteristics.

Norvell has embarrassed FSU beyond reproach with his antics and behavior. Although Manny seems to have matured a little since joining Duke, he’s still goofy and corny. He’s nowhere near the level of Norvell, especially on the creepiness factor. Think FSU might want to go on a different direction and hire more of a no-nonsense, disciplinarian type of coach. Time will tell. I’m fine with either Norvell or Diaz at FSU for years to come.

Are no-nonsense, disciplinarian types of coaches still fairly common with the portal and NIL now? There are a handful who have the credentials to get you to the NFL, but guys bounce so quickly now.

I don't think Norvell gets fired unless he has another losing season. He's owed too much money. They just had a stadium renovation. They need NIL money. Their pockets are drying up. They'd have to shell out over $100M between firing Norvell and hiring a new coach.

On top of that, they need buyout money for their desperate desire to leave the ACC before 2030.

FSU is in a world of hurt!!!
