…and they have to start the season against Baga. The Tide should be a heavy favorite in that one.

Danielson- promoted from within
Sarkisian- Alabama OC
Dillingham - Oregon OC
Franklin - Vanderbilt HC
Swinney - promoted from within
Freeman - promoted from within
Day - promoted from within
Heupel - UCF HC
Cignetti - JMU HC
Lashlee - Miami OC

I personally like the idea of hiring a successful coordinator from a big time program because they’re used to big boy recruiting. Obviously promoting from within is only a good move if the prior head coach was successful. And hiring an up and comer from a smaller school is always a gamble.

Let’s hope FSU promotes from within when they finally dump Norvell.

2000 - FSU was 11-1 in the regular season. Their one loss was to us, but they still went to the BCS championship game. Them being a good team that season along with our loss to Washington early in the season were the sole reasons we were left out of the BCS game. Their success directly affected us in a negative way.

2001 - FSU was 7-4 during the regular season, including a lopsided loss to us. Obviously, we took care of business and fielded the best team ever. We didn’t need them to be good.

I do understand what you are saying that we determine our own success. I agree with that, but FSU’s and UF’s lack of success can help us in the recruiting and portal battles. Winning those battles should in theory make us better, as we are technically getting the better, more talented players.

Our main goal is to worry about our team and focus on our own success, but I can still root against our rivals in the process. I think that’s part of the college football experience.

Indeed. Not saying I wouldnt **** Holy water on either program and watch them sizzle and melt, but we’re in an important point in our rebuild. The S**t or get off the Pot phase. No need to be distracted by their BS. Go Canes🙌🏽
 
The real answer on your rivals and whether to root for them or not is that there is no wrong answer. There’s amazing joy of being the one loss on somebody’s schedule that knocked them out of the national championship and the ratings and attention that come to a game, where the two schools are highly matched. That said I completely enjoy the misery of Florida state last year would do again.

Either way you get a recruiting advantage. You either swipe their soul and win or they’re so terrible that you win.

I like Lane. He’s a good coach but for whatever reason people want to believe he’s the answer for every single team that needs a coach. Is it “Kiffin or nothing” for a school like FSU or UF? Of course not. There’s guys out there that could do the job but they’re going to need the financial backing.

On the same note, you could hire Lane or ****, you could bring Knute Rokne back from the dead and if you don’t spend on the program, it won’t matter.
