The 2023 team had a lot of NFL players on it besides Jordan Travis. They still beat Florida and Louisville without him. They’ve had what, one NFL draft pick the last two years? They’re a lot more than just a quarterback away.
 
Do you still need 6 wins against FBS teams to be eligible for a bowl?
 
Their team has dropped off across the board since 2023, not just at QB. They never recruited H.S. well. They hit on transfers at a really high rate for a year or so, but didn't have the core/depth behind them. Not to mention the landscape for acquiring transfers has continued to evolve and has left them behind. Now they can't acquire talent either through the portal or H.S. recruiting and they get buried deeper and deeper with every passing cycle of player acquisition. Would they have won a few more games had they had a better QB last season, I guess maybe. The issue is the years of incompetence and failure in the area of talent acquisition that leaves them in no position to acquire a better QB. In fact, it's only getting worse as A. Daniels is likely not even as good as Catellanos. They're getting the QBs they deserve and the results that go with it.

For 2 years, Prison Mike and F$U were "good at the Portal".

And ever since the other schools figured out the Portal and started to compete with F$U, the *****-Holes have been (uneaten) dog-****.

They haven't recruited terribly at quarterback - the issue was that they haven't retained their players for the most part.

2022:
AJ Duffy (.9306) - Two seasons, then transferred

2023:
Brock Glenn (.8878) - Three seasons, then transferred

2024:
Luke Kromenhoek (.9718) - One season, then transferred
Trever Jackson (.8800) - One season, then transferred

2025:
Kevin Sperry (.8939) - Still on roster

2026:
Jaden O'Neal (.8995) - Incoming freshman

I see:

Castellanos in their OT loss vs. UVA - 56% completion, 1 TD/2 INT. . Against Stanford, 50% completion, no passing TDs. He played well at Pitt but only 250 yards of offense, and had a bad fumble.

They win at least two of those easily with a Jordan Travis at QB play and probably all three.

Uhhh, yeah? And "with a Jordan Travis at QB", they also had an undefeated 13-1 record.

And Prison Mike Norvell got a raise and an extension "with a Jordan Travis at QB"...

Um, yeah. The whole point of my original post was that a good QB and a good coach is enough to get them back to respectable. Not a championship team - respectable.

We'll see what Diaz does this year without a Mensah there.
