No Words...

Let’s be honest. Manny didn’t belong being a head coach here. Just a Lazy hire by D*** head Blake James. I didnt mind him being the DC. I still respect him from hiring Enid and bringing in Lashlee. Richt would had never! Probably better than Steele. Everyone talking about Gattis, but Steele I think should go too. Bad hires there.

Exactly. Urbie the liar should have plenty of $$$ but he’s not going to bite that hand that’s currently feeding him.

Manny will be exposed soon enough. He always has. He’s been a couple times this year.

If Urban comes back it'll be to the Big Ten to get a taste of Manny.

Never understood the “lazy hire” criticism.

Sometimes coordinators can rise to the challenge and be good HCs. See UGA as an example.

Most times they don’t.

But hiring an HC is always a gamble, and in 2017, if you wanted “new blood” with an existing connection to the area, you could’ve done a ****load worse than Manny Diaz.

Aside from his crappy year at UT, he’d shown plenty of upside and was at/near the top of all lists for promotion to HC. And he came with a cheap price tag, so from a biz standpoint, it wasn’t lazy—it was a legit choice with a pretty good upside.

So, a gamble that didn’t work out. Happens all the time.

He was the Temple head coach at the time. That’s how the market felt about that risk

Manny also was our LB coach. Look at what he left us

Mannys scheme works with good players. When Golden left, our D Line was DEEP and we had Shaq, Pink, Mc cloud at LB and also Romeo Finley who was a good striker. But once those guys left you saw the defense sucked

He was hired in less than 24 hours after Richt announced his retirement. No formal search for other candidates. Hiring the defensive coordinator on the outgoing head coach's staff is the definition of a lazy hire.

And by the way, no ill will on my part toward Manny. He did his best and wasn't up to the task. Blake James and the Board of Trustees get the blame to me. I never understood the bile CIS always gives to former coaches, but I hope Manny does well for himself.

I give him another 2-3 years and his defense sucks again.

Like, I don't get the fascination from some with him this season. Penn State has played a cakewalk schedule and the only two teams with a pulse were Michigan and Ohio State. His defense got smoked twice.

Problem is he can't recruit the players to build around. Look at our LB room he left us with..

To his credit he tried to make good hires to address the deficiencies. He actually hired Travis Williams at the start of 2021. Williams is an excellent recruiter and LB coach. DBs recruiting wasn't where it needed to be - so he hired Travaris Robinson, who was also known as a top recruiter and coach. Unfortunately Williams got the DC job at UCF, and it was too late to get another coach of the same caliber. UCFs D is a respectable 40th in total defense. Maybe the right move would have been to promote Williams to DC. I said Diaz was doomed if he tried to be the HC and DC at the same time- not just based on his DC scheme, but because it would simply be too much to handle both responsibilities.

Now it looked to me like Diaz made bad hires on both sides of the ball his first year, then fixed one side of the ball the next year (and it was a phenomenal fix to the offense, we jumped to #26 in the country and landed the most coveted dual threat QB in the portal). The next year after that, he started changing the personnel on defense. Isn't that what we want in a coach - someone who sees a deficiency on the staff and fixes it? For the last six weeks all I've heard is fans praying that Mario replaces his personnel this offseason. I hope he's willing to make the necessary changes too.

Urban Meyer on Manny Diaz......

Now give Mack Brown a few drinks and ask him the same question about Manny Diaz as DC.

As Texas HC, Mack fired Diaz after the worst defensive performance in Texas‘ history
As UNC HC, Mack inflicted the worst defensive performance in Miami history on Diaz

And we can roll the tape of Michigan running for over 400 yards on Penn State earlier this season…

Honestly, how many threads about this dude are enough.

Manny is a decent enough DC when he has talent.

That I will give him credit for.

He can't recruit or evaluate though. He would really need a perfect situation with other evaluators and recruiters to pick up his slack.

That said, at the end of the day he's decent, but his 'chaos' philosophy still gets shredded by teams with a run game and decent OC.
