No way we are making the playoffs

And like 5/6 of those you mentioned, Mario had the best QB in the country. Difference between him and those 5, they took advantage and actually did something whereas Mario did not lol. He actually completely **** the bed, not sure if that really strengthened your argument brother.
Do you know how rarely the "top QB in the country" win the national title?

Well aware, but dude shouldn’t have used those coaches as an example. They DID win it all, in a much tougher era. What did we do?

We didn't win it all. But saying that we had the "best QB in the country" doesn't mean we should have won it all. His point is that you don't have to be Bear Bryant to win a title.

I think OP was using examples to disprove the notion that a flawed, stubborn HC can never win it all. Even with Mario fumbling away a year with Cam Ward he's better than most (if not all) of those coaches as a program builder. The 12-team playoff helps to mitigate Mario's downside a bit as well.

I'll also say that the key differentiator for each of those other listed teams was a championship DLine (or at least a game-wrecker or two).

To use a specific example, Cam Newton was the best CFB player in 2010, but Nick Fairley won them the game against Oregon for the title.

Hm, so who do you need to be to make it to just MAKE the conference championship game with the most talent and the most money spent in the conference and not lose multiple times a year as a double digit favorite?

Who said you did? Rhett Lashlee made the playoffs. You people have to stop with this mindset that Mario is the center of the football universe, and if his team doesn't win it all, he is a failure.

11-1 is the only path in my opinion, and that's regardless if we get into the ACC Championship or not. Ironically, we probably get in at 10-2 if we had lost to ND or UF and have the 1 conference loss. We aren't getting in with 2 ACC losses.

I think that's still up in the air and really depends on when that loss happens. If we lose to SMU, I don't think we claw our way back in. If we run off a bunch of wins and climb back into the top 5, I don't think a 24-23 loss at Pitt automatically eliminates us.

Oh, let's be honest. If we make it to the playoffs and don't win the whole thing, we're going to hear about "Mario ball" for eight months.

Can’t speak for anyone else, but not for me. Us making the playoffs would help us tap into another level of talent acquisition IMO because it’d give him more ammo on the trail. But if we fall short again then ….

The money is going to dry up soon. But, that’s a different story that will inevitably come in a couple months. Go Canes.

Lose to SMU. Depends where you fall
You fall to 15 in playoff poll there is plenty of time to work up

Lose to Pitt it would depend where we were at that time and what score is
If we are #5 or #6 and Lose by 3 would we drop 7 or 8 spots?

So many teams will pile up loses

Lots more losses for a lot of teams.

If USF and Notre Dame both make playoffs, Miami can absolutely make playoffs at 10-2.

Much more meat on this years schedule than last years, AND committee said last year the reason Miami was #13 was no top 25 wins.

"Be real/honest/fair/100, if UM did [insert some on-field goal the team failed to meet], our fans would still be *****ing about [insert any HC over the last 22 years] because he didn't [insert accomplishment greater than the goal the team failed to meet]."

I would love for this thesis to actually be put to the test one of these years. Instead, every year this team fails to achieve whatever comes after the "if".
