Evidently he isn't...spent 16yrs in the NFL and now he's an analyst in College....what tf is he analyzing...

Maybe he wanted to work with he longtime friend Mario Cristobal? They both got there starts at Rutgers under Schiano.

Again please name a “quality“ ST coach?

Stevenson fielding punts is on the coaches. No way in **** TS is the best option ahead of K. Smith, Knighton, Parrish, George, and B. Smith.
As a whole this thread utterly sucks but this right hear is accurate. After TS2 jumped up to catch the punt for no reason whatsoever vs So Miss he should not have seen the field after that. Easily could have fumbled that and obviously **** the sheets on the 8&4 bounced punt.

How's Jeff Banks that went to Texas from Bama?

How's Pete Lembo at USCe?

What? Are you high

Maalouf spent the past 16 years in the NFL as a ST coach. Having him come as a Analyst and as one of 10 on field coaches was a big get.

But please who would be a “quality” ST coach? Really I want to names.

Per Wikipedia:

"Maalouf began his NFL coaching career with the Cleveland Browns. Following his three-year stint with Cleveland, he spent the 2007 NFL season writing scouting reports for Scouts Inc. and ESPN. He returned to coaching the following year as the assistant special teams coach for the Baltimore Ravens. In the 2012 NFL season, he left the Ravens along with Chuck Pagano[4] when the Indianapolis Colts named him special teams coordinator. He was let go [3] after one year and began coaching for the Miami Dolphins, until being hired by the Vikings[5][6] for the 2019 NFL season. After the 2020 season, his contract wasn’t renewed by the Vikings[7] and he was replaced by Ryan ******."

16 Year ST Coach? Do some research, Razor.

Fired from last two SPECIAL TEAMS gigs after one year.

I don't understand why you'd have two DL coaches and no ST or WR coach. We lost this game because of drops and special teams play. Mario needs to tighten up his staff...whatever it takes.

That was complete bullshìt Saturday night. He knows it...and so do the folks who gave him everything and anything he asked for to produce a winner. Yeah its early, but not properly filling out the staff and having it come back to bite us in the *** during a potentially huge momentum building win in his third game is somewhat concerning to say the least.

Let's hope good advice comes his way and that he's willing to adapt as necessary to turn this program around like I know he wants to.
C'mon. No coaching was going to change the special teams mistakes.

What's he going to say that Tyrique doesn't already know? "Keep your eye on the ball and look it in all the way."

Hey Andres, "You're a great kicker. Don't miss."

The special teams coach is looking at the scheme of all 11 special teamers. Now, the blocked kick is a coachable play to ensure the blocking scheme is correct by the entire line. One weak link and the line falls.

Sorry I didnt do my dissertation on his career history, I just looked at the handy chart provided by Wikipedia.

Career history
As a coach:

my bad I count 15 not 16

Not sure what happened with the Colts in 2012 but it looks like every other move was either for a promotion or the coaching staff got fired.

btw John Harbaugh spent years as a ST coach and he thought enough of Maalouf to keep him on staff for 4 seasons.

A competent ST coach wouldn't have had Tyrique out there in that situation. We have better options. Even if he did, he'd have coached him up enough for him to know he should have attacked that ball instead of letting it bounce. It's so much tougher of a play to catch a punt on a bounce than in the air. I was there, had a great view of it and if he did, he might have scored with the room and momentum he'd have had when he caught it.

And using your OC to double as the position coach of a group as impactful as the wide receivers, with a recruiting base like we have in South Florida, is short changing the offense.

I'm a big Mario fan and have always thought he's the right man for the job. I just hope he's learned to be flexible enough to make changes where necessary, which in my opinion includes slight adjustments to the coaching staff as well as implementing a more aggressive overall style of football. I wish Jimmy would come on as an "analyst" and rip his old OT a new one for kicking a field goal from the 4 yard line down 17-3 late in the third quarter. He said in the post game interview he did it because the team needed some momentum. GTFOH, that is as deflating as it gets for a team. Come on.

They‘re allowed to but technically can’t actively coach . Even though they do.
Unbelievable that a ST Coach isn't out on GreenTree every day coaching. With all the different ST positions, to not have a coach feet away is so asinine, I don't know where to begin.

OK Mr. armchair special teams coach. They went thru all Fall camp and he is the guy.

He drops the ball and now he's not only not the guy, but never should have been and the coach is incompetent? Like he said I know we have better options, but I'm going to play Tyrique anyway. C'mon man!!!

Glad you can go unbothered by that putrid performance we saw by the special teams. Not only that...you're defending it. Must be nice. I almost wanna say I'll have some of whatever you're smoking. Almost...

Stop making **** up I didn't say!!!!

Stop being a fanatic because our punt returner fumbled the ball.

News flash there will be fumbles during the season. Interceptions as well. You going to say Smith, Gattis, and Ponce are incompetent as well?

This phucking fanbase!!!!

He is on the field every day coaching. It’s literally just a technicality to say he’s not an on the field coach in that he’s not being paid as one and cannot go on the road recruiting like “full timers”.
