No freshman DB will redshirt this year. WTF

As good as Jaquan is we don't need him this year.... a redshirt on him would go a long ways imo

if the kids are that great and we absolutely want that 5th year out of them, chances are they will have bounced to the NFL by their 5th year any way. if they arent that good, then hopefully we've recruited a better player behind them. always a chance a kid uses his redshirt following an injury(or suspension) later in their career as well (see rayshawn or AQM).

personally, im all for giving young talented kids an opportunity to play and get a feel for the game. especially if we end up needing them due to injuries. even moreso, if they can contribute

Why is the coaching staff going to RS when they are fighting for their jobs

It's the old misaligned incentives thing rearing up again. The people in charge are most concerned with THIS YEAR, while we the fans are the only ones assured of being here in 4 years.

THIS. They give absolutely ZERO ***** about redshirts this year. They are fighting to either save their jobs, or look like they're actually competent as an audition tape for new jobs. They can't bomb 2-3 years in a row and not have something to hang their hats on.

Wrong or not, the best case scenario for the team is that they change a few blatantly obvious shortcomings and overachieve to save their jobs or do just enough to be average and not completely horrible so that they get fired but may be able to hang their hats on "cleaning up the culture" of the program. This way when the next coach comes in and wins, they can say, "he did it off the foundation we have set."

Another glaring example of Goldens recruiting ****ups! DB, LB and OL this year. DT and DB next year, bringing in a decent haul for DB 2016 if they stick, but some will have to play with departures.

knowles and henley need to redshirt.

And they will

Ummmmm no they wont...Paul wiliams just said that Jaquan, Henly, Redwine, and Jackson will Play because the corner depth is not where we want it to be.............. He did not say Knowles... a coincidence? I dont think so KNowles is the least likely to play anywhere

Yall act like we dont only have 3 corners that can play.... I guarantee you Bush sees a lot of time at Corner

Of all the things that the staff takes heat for, the inexcusable is a lack of very good, or better, defensive backs at the University of Miami. That is simply unbelievable. If you cannot put quality DBs on the field here, you should not coach D1 ball.

Knowles' strength/athletic testing numbers alone should be cause to redshirt him. And Golden/D'Onofrio/Williams shouldn't say anything about DB depth not being where they want it to be without taking full accountability for causing it.

That's what happens when you fail to land any top CB targets two years in a row. That's what happens when you ignore Dowels/Hoggins/J. Davis because they project as slot corners and you prefer to drop Owens/McCord 20+ yards against the likes of Pharoh Cooper.

And when you tell a local baller like Rashad Fenton you're not interested until the 11th hour, even though countless fans were clamoring for him for months. And when the staff probably didn't even realize Jeremiah Dinson existed, but he was clearly good enough for Auburn.

This staff's DB recruiting was disgraceful in 2014 and 2015. They brought this entire situation on themselves with their incompetence and outright neglect of quality talent from our own backyard.

Al Golden and Paul Williams are ******** this one up big time.

Good lord what is the obsession with freakin redshirts? It's a brave new world fellas....these kids wanna play and freshman playing time is a selling point. I think its fairly likely that kids like Jaquan and Redwine are better than a lot of our "upper-class depth". There's no guarantees at all and any program worth their salt will recruit kids like this every year.

I know they're way above us but do you have any idea how many freshman played KEY KEY roles for FSU last year?

You're spot on with the failure to land these local guys. One of the reasons I am excited about a kid like Redwine playing is to prove just how wrong that strategy was to pass up kids like him. They got lucky that Redwine flipped.

It's not a surprise if knowles redshirt. We have 5 playable safeties. Jaquan Johnson probably should redshirt this year given the depth at safety but he is not going to.
