I was hoping we'd get under center and employ some basic power football, like the Dolphins have done the past two games. Two years ago we had Duke reeling on the road in the early going until we got away from running the ball.

Miami is 118th out of 128 in rushing attempts her game.

Too bad Stanford is so far away and plays late at night. I doubt many fans have watched what they have done this year, incorporating so many different formations and wrinkles into their traditional power game. It's gorgeous to watch and recently has made Kevin Hogan look far better than he actually is at quarterback. Kaaya has more natural passing ability and touch than Hogan, albeit not close to the same toughness or running ability.

Stanford is very vulnerable and somewhat overrated right now, IMO. The defense is young. But these new offensive wrinkles are excellent and a sign of what a pro set team can accomplish via logical adjustments and concessions. It's hardly up the gut every time.

I can't stand one-back finesse based spread offenses. That handoff is blown up so often, and in critical situations. Urban Meyer uses power based running plays with the quarterback viable.

So now that Gorlden is gone we are right back to missing valuable practice time?

I'm guessing the ice cream social is Thursday night?

Maybe that weasel on ESPN was right. We are a complete dumpster fire.

This is not a professional team like the dolphins and Larry scott is a temp coach with no shot at getting the HC vacancy, unlike Campbell. How could he fire the coordinators when we aren’t giving him authority to hire new ones?.

Some of you people don’t understand the stupidity you type.

There is nothing that can be done at this point, we just have to ride the season out and hope we make it to the bowl game even if it's a bad one. At least with a bad bowl you still get to keep practicing.

Yes but what will we be practicing? The same abortion of a defense? The same throw it at the wall and see if it sticks offense? I think that this team would be much better served by getting a head start on the new systems they will be playing in.

No staff or scheme changes. It's all about the kids. Not x's and o's...

I beg to differ. Thank god he is a temp.

It's ridiculous how blinded u guys are by the end results. Yea this season has sucked and I'm glad golden is fired as much as the next guy, but these are ******* kids, 20 years old just like me and guess what many of them really liked golden believe it or not and change is difficult. Arties mother just died, and half of them just lost a father figure. Give it a break Scott's gonna do what he thinks Is best and the less change and turmoil he adds the better. If he thinks they can handle canning donofrio then so be it, but if he thinks it would impact the players too much then that's his call. U people forget there actually a human element to all this ****.

Can I respectfully disagree without getting bashed? 20 is old enough to pay taxes, start a family (intentional or not) live on your own, and tell other people to "f*ck off" whenever the urge strikes you. If we keep calling 20 year Olds kids, we will keep delaying responsibility. ****, they all signed contracts at 18! Not to bash the younger crowd, but you have a credit score at 18.

I concur. At 17 I was carrying an M-16 in defense of our country.

Stanford is not overrated at all. Christian McCaffrey is forreal forreal.

Just finish the season.
It does not matter if they change a single thing.
The most important change already happened. Now we just need to finish the season so we can get on with hiring the new coach.
There is no salvaging the season.

Larry Scott, who began his second day as interim coach of the University of Miami football team on Monday, is the right choice at a critical moment.
Players who seem vulnerable after three emotionally draining days need a gentle hand on the shoulder rather than a hard push. Scott should be able to provide the former now, the latter once they are able to take a deep breath and collect themselves to confront the remainder of the season.

While it’s easy to regard this as a lost season for UM following the 58-0 humiliation by Clemson and the firing of coach Al Golden, Scott must regard turmoil as opportunity for a turnaround. UM is 4-3 overall, 1-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with five games left to make a run at its goal of winning the Coastal division or at least earn a decent bowl bid and improvement over last year’s 6-7 record.

Golden’s gone, but there’s a long way to go. The Hurricanes were battered by more bad news Monday when cornerback Artie Burns’ mother, Dana Smith, 44, died of complications from a heart attack. Smith, a former track star at Northwestern High and a force for good in her community, was like a team mother. She invited players over for meals.

“You take a mentor away, and mix in death — that’s a tough combination,” Scott said. “I challenged the coaches…to really tap into the reasons you choose to be a coach. It’s going to be about far more than the Xs and Os and getting this from a standpoint of corrected football. It’s going to be about being able to reach these young men and help them through a rough period in their lives.”

A different type of grief hit the team Sunday, when Golden met with his players to say goodbye.

“It was a hard experience,” safety Deon Bush said. “Coach recruited all of us. He has been there since high school. He teaches you a lot of lessons and has seen you grow up into a man. It hurts because he’s a good person. It really hurts.”

Seven games into his fifth season, Golden ran out of time to revive a dormant dynasty. He was 32-25 at UM but failed to win an ACC title, defeat a team that finished in the Top 25 or beat Florida State. Two years ago, Golden led UM back up to No. 7 briefly, but had backtracked since. UM athletic director Blake James decided after the awful performance on Saturday before a dwindling home crowd that he couldn’t wait until the end of the season to let Golden go.
Scott has decided to spare defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio, who has taken so much criticism for schemes that don’t work and players who can’t tackle. Golden was extremely, perhaps self-destructedly loyal to D’Onofrio, who is also hurting.

“My heart goes out to Al and his family; he did everything he could and I’m proud of him,” he said. “We have a team, we have unity, we’re together and we’re going to rally.”

UM has to prepare for a road game at No. 21 Duke on Saturday without starting quarterback Brad Kaaya (concussion) and top receiver Rashawn Scott (shoulder), who are out indefinitely.

Scott, 38, a native of Sebring, Fla., was hired by Golden in 2013 as tight ends coach and run game coordinator assisting offensive coordinator James Coley after eight seasons as an assistant at South Florida, where he had been an offensive lineman and a member of the original football team. His younger brother LaVaar was a defensive end at UM from 1998 to 2002 under coaches Butch Davis and Larry Coker.
Scott realizes his resume and youth probably won’t make him a contender for the permanent job.

“It’s not about me,” he said with a laugh. “No matter how it works out, it’s about the kids. I think it comes down to one thing — relationships. We have a system in place. We have to make sure we have their hearts.”

While Dan Campbell was chosen to wake up the somnambulant Dolphins after Joe Philbin was fired, Scott was chosen to counsel the downtrodden Hurricanes.

“We love coach Scott,” safety Dallas Crawford said. “We’ve always respected him. We’ll do anything for him. He keeps it real. He’s 100. He’ll praise you when you need to be praised and he’ll tell you about yourself when you need to pick it up.”
Sometimes a fresh voice with an invigorating message is all it takes for transformation. The therapy Scott ordered on Monday was for players to get back out on the grass and treat it like a playground at recess.

“We don’t want to make this seem like there’s some magical potion we’re going to throw out there, or gimmick words that are going to make it heal,” he said. “You’re talking about two extremes – from a low-low to trying to get them to be as high and energetic as you can. It’s going to take some work, but you know what? We have to bring it every day. We have to create an atmosphere of guys who are disciplined and smart but having fun.”

Disappointing, but probably what we should have expected.

I like Scott as a position coach, I think, but who the **** is this guy? I mean, really? Slim on experience. Who did we expect him to bring in? What does he know about coaching defense himself?

This season's a likely dumpster fire. I'll enjoy watching my 'Canes and just appreciate this season for what it is: a turning point.

Why did Flake state that Scott had the authority to fire? We knew it wasn't true, but why did he say it?

He said it to further the ILLUSION that there would be changes. It was a BS appeasement of the fans.

Flake and the BOT, like Hilary and others, figure they can get away by lying anytime. They don't figure that they'll eventually get caught, and get the fans even MORE ****ed than they would have been.

You can fool the POTATOES most of the time, but you can't fool all the fans, all of the time.

Meanwhile, enjoy the beat downs. There's many more coming. Hopefully, none of them will be televised, so I can save myself the agida.

I agree that ok fine shouldn't be considered kids but their still really young dudes who just lost someone who was very important to many of them, and also are dealing with the passing of someone very close to all of them so just chill out with the whole win now change scheme fix everything. U can't blow **** up in the middlee of a season. With that said I didn't bash u a single time throughout that post. Unless u consider being called blind bashing. In that case idk what to tell u

Baffles the mind that they didn't pick ICE to be the head guy. At least he's been the head guy somewhere.

I still wish he would've **** canned Dorito. Melvin has been around a lot of different coaches give that dude a chance to call the defense. Couldn't be any worse.
