No chance Diaz and Blake are both back

Here's the problem with that: no elite DC will take the job for a lame-duck head coach even if you guaranteed his salary. Same with an LB coach. Cristobal is the only realistic head coach we can get that is an upgrade over Diaz.

So if you can't get him and the rest of the coaches that are interested would not be a clear upgrade, then yeah it would be worth it so just keep Diaz.

UM would have to overpay but someone would come. If the DC is successful then Diaz gets retained because I think we will be fine now on O with TVD. Should mean a 10 win season. Everyone said the exact same thing about the CB coach position last year - we'd never get a top CB coach because no one would work for a lame duck. Ended up with one of the best in the biz. And in cfb nowadays, pretty much any HC can get fired anytime regardless of how many years he has left. Mullen just got a huge raise a couple years ago. Probably getting fired. Ed O became one of the highest paid coaches, already fired. Bunch of other HCs got canned too and I don't think they were at the end of their contracts.

Honestly though, how many coaches out there have 3 to 4 years of job security? You can probably count them on two hands and have fingers left over.
I’ll bite:

1) You are fine with a band aid DC - whom A) likely has to run Manny’s scheme or B) has to change the whole Defensive scheme in one off season in the hopes it succeeds with the personnel in place.

2) many here saying if Manny loses 1 game, then he should be out. So 1 loss is what separates Manny from being a good coach who keeps his job vs a bad coach who should lose it?

None of this is logical!!! It’s an insane concept, like looney bin, bat sh*t crazy

If the decision is so cut & dry, why is he still employed at Miami?

I'm actually asking. I can't thing of one positive reason.

Life, and hiring and firing, it’s not that cut and dry in certain situations.

Something that has a lot of moving parts, and that we don’t have the interior knowledge of or how the decision makers think, or operate, yeah I can see why it’s taking some time.

@Cribby could probably verify but I was told Manny did try to reach out to people including muschamp and was willing to give up DC but couldn't close the deal.

If I recall correctly, the chatter on the board was the only DC that Diaz would look at was Muschamp. Once he was out, Diaz decided he would take the reins himself.

Not a good look for Diaz that Muschamp would choose to be a UGA analyst than UMs DC, but if UGA wins the national championship this year with an absolutely dominant D, Muschamp might be in line for another HC job somewhere so I guess it was the right call.

I don’t have interior knowledge but it’s not as complicated as you’re implying. There’s no financial advantage in doing it now or in 4 weeks. Almost certain it comes down to a lack of direction on where to go after he’s canned. Frenk is in over his head.

No No No GIF

And that Top DB coach is likely out the door after just 1 year! Please!!! No more makeup on the pig

If Diaz wins out he's staying, they are not going to fire a coach whose 8-4 with 2 of those losses coming on fluke plays... They will look at Alabama and Michigan state as the only real losses. Diaz will return on notice next season and go 9-3 after taking in like 7 portal guys

Blake is gone as I mentioned in the other post. very powerful people are trying to keep him around probably for fundraising but he may weasel his way back into the job. if Manny keeps winning, gets to the acc champ and wins, I see him here next year with a competent AD/GM who mandates a DC and big time changes in the program and gives him more money to hire more staff/analysts

edit: let me just add.. Frenk isn't into sports but his *** sure doesn't like getting called to the carpet on national tv and in the media and making the university look bad, no matter what area it is. He has chewed Blake out several times. Then add on Blake making a fool of himself by throwing the team/Manny under the bus before the ncstate game has set Frenk off more than I have ever seen.
I see where you're going with this and it's a valid question. But in that same head space.. if Manny isn't running the defense, and we're not hiring someone that runs his version of defense, then why are we even keeping Manny? He doesn't recruit well (2021 class appears to be an obvious outlier to his other 5 years at Miami and everywhere else before that), clearly doesn't identify talent, he has yet to develop anyone picked higher than the 3rd round in the draft aside from Rousseau and Phillips. And he's only had 1 3rd round pick who he didn't recruit - the rest are 4 and lower. AND he is a terrible game day coach. We never look prepared, we play down to the competition and never up to the competition when they're better than us.

At that point he becomes a CEO that's just collecting a paycheck and doing nothing value added to the program. Bring me someone that brings something to the table. He's already failed one OC hire, 1 DC hire and then gave himself the title and proceeded to field a defense significantly worse than the one he got rid of. He over estimated his 2nd OC hire - we could have done better. I don't trust him to make another hire and actually make it right.
I've said this on another thread but it's starting to sound like something like what I am saying will happen:
We fire Flake in favor of Zo. Zo forces staff changes (Patke?) and allows Diaz 1 more year (no extension) to see if he fails again after everything he's learned this year with the offense, younger players, etc.

We go out and spend big bucks on a quality DC (that Mario would be okay keeping if Diaz is fired next year) and show that we are willing to spend money on analysts, elsewhere, etc.

We salvage some recruiting after winning out to hit ACCCG game and get first title. Hit the portal hard. Clear out the cancers we have, let the best players play, and go from there.

Doing this saves money on Diaz's contract, put in place some pieces for next year if we do need to get Mario after his contract is less ridiculous, get rid of Flake, and allow Zo to make the decision based on a year of working with Diaz.

That Mario would keep? Please tell me how that situation would work lol

That’s fine but you are talking about before the start of this season, correct?

I am talking after this season ends

Idk man haha.
I'm just saying that in order to get a big DC under a coach that may be fired next year we'd have to pony up big and probably guarantee the DC that he wouldn't be axed the following year if Diaz is. "Hey Mario, you like this guy if we hire him?" Lmao. I'm just spit balling cause nothing makes sense anyways.

Fck both of them. Neither one deserves their post at this University. Both trying to spin chit to absolve themselves.

Don’t let these 3 wins cause ur brains not to remember that Diaz just blamed the fans for his recruiting woes. Now he’s pointing the finger towards Blake. Both are POS politicians who refuse to accept accountability. Fck them both.
They been trash I told these dudes man....he was all talk always has been. Took advantage of RJ Macintosh and G3 who were good DTs vs a trash ACC...who Alf Golden gifted them. Then they continued to not recruit and I waited cause I know the roster was taking a dip down the road....and bang here it is the ramifications of not recruiting are being shown now.
