NIL workaround for scholarship limits

eh, realistically this isn't going to be that helpful or used much by us at least. Miami tuition+room/board is $74k. If a walkon is good enough that they are getting $74k worth in NIL money, they are almost certainly good enough to have one of our 85 scholarships. We're not going to pay a ******* walk-on $300k to graduate and never ******* play lol.

Like this would ONLY be used in a very specific situation of being full scholarships and wanting to take another guy in the portal or something... Or maybe to avoid IC counter limit one year...

Like covering just 5 walk-ons cost of attendance here in NIL would be enough money to sign a 5star and more...

The previous National Letter of Intent was totally voluntary. Nobody had to sign it but, if a player did, the school had to tender a Financial Aid Agreement. So players signed to lock in the aid.

I've always thought, if you were a stud recruit, you shouldn't sign as you'd still get the FA. And the NLI/FA was only good for a year, anyway.

So, now, don't sign the NLI at all, but use the NIL benefits (before you jump into the portal in year two (see the Quinn Ewers model)).

This deal along with Miami’s American Top Team deal were one of the first NIL deals announced last year. It’s what got the vigilant eye of the NCAA to look into both schools. I’m sure the NCAA would’ve love to punish us both but once the word got around what was going on at ATM and UT they seemed to back off. On another note, Built has some delicious protein bars.

No, I don’t think so. Players have to be on a football scholarship if on a athletic scholarship. You can’t stash players on the track team, with track scholarships, for example. A walk-on can play in games.

Need confirmation though.

Doesn’t this violate the terms of NIL in that they’re paying kids solely because they play football? I recall there being rumblings when Texas announced they’d pay their whole OL $50k each because that’s “pay for play”. My understanding is that you can’t pay a block of players as a group, because that’s clearly paying them to play football.

Nope. In fact, there are rules on the percentage of players who are on scholly in order to count as a win for their opponents bowl eligibility purposes. Some schools only have like 60% on full rides.

I didn't buy the post that a player had to be on scholarship to take snaps. That made no sense. But I really want to understand the actual rules, so somebody please post a link.

This scenario of bypassing the 85 scholly limit was one of the first things I thought about.

I mean, if it works, good for BYU.

The rich gonna get richer (& bigger rosters).
