Out here in Austin watching the Texas / Baylor game, and the announcers mentioned the RB Bijon Robinson is the third highest paid player in the nation in NIL dollars - $2M. They were talking about his NFL future (he has to be going pro), and one of the announcers said that pre-NIL it would be a no brainer. But the announcer then said that UT needs to make a decision - put together a $6M or $7M package to get him to return for his senior season. "Just look at this crowd!" he crowed, signifiying that this is what is at stake if Robinson does not return.

So are we there now? Schools openly being encouraged to spend close to seven figures for the services of an athlete for a single season. Again, I have to ask, what the heck is going to be going through the minds of the offensive linemen who got $50K from their Pancake Foundation to block for Bijon, if and when he signs for $7M per the fruits of their labour.

after collectives and schools are burned a few times, I think it'll pan out and become a better system where players like Bijan get the majority of the NIL and high school kids shares dwindle down.

everyone's learning right now but I think it'll shift to a more logic based foundation where I want to pay to keep someone I know is worth x amount rather than spending an unrecoverable amount on a HS kid that may not amount to anything

Good point. What happens if Ewers and Manning both flame out?

It will come a time where the business and collectives will experience NIL exhaustion, especially when they experience enough seasons that don't match their expectations. At some point, ROI will matter.

Regarding Robinson, it would make sense to stay if he can get $6-7 million for a final season. From the UT side, I would be more inclined to save NIL monies for the team if the price tag is that high. But I'm not a believer in telling others how they should spend their money.

heck, if he can just get double what he’s getting now and a paid insurance plan to protect against 1st rd contract money due to injury, that should be enough.
