Nike is BYKE.

Here we go with the revisionist history. Mario is about revenue, because REVENUE allows him to build a world class program. Had Nike done what they’ve usually done and that’s lowball Miami, Mario(and the powers that be) would have looked elsewhere. Nike provided a top end deal, and Adidas didn’t match. Miami did what any well run organization does and that’s take the best possible deal.

I’m sure Adidas was hoping that Miami would take a slight discount in a “We were loyal to you when you were down” move, but loyalty is only for family and even that can be conditional.
Btw, I am on record saying that Adidas always makes these lowball loyalty offers to long-term customers. It's insane that they have done it again.

Found the post. Read it and you'll see what happened. I can't believe they did exactly what I said they will do lmao @Rellyrell

Personally, I'm an Addidas guy. Reason being that I'm old dude who grew up watching "Soccer made in Germany" on PBS during the 1970s. Lots of Addidas unis, warm-up suits and mullets ("German Waterfall") those days and I became sold on the Three Stripes.
But I'm in favor of whatever apparrell company offers the most lucrative deal.
Addidas, Nike, Russell Athletic, Pro-Keds, whatever.

Comparing what Miami was getting from adidas vs Penn state is crazy. 4 to 5 times more for pedo state? lol

Adidas stepped up. when we were in the gutter, Nike left us over lack of commitment to football ( thanks again Donna)
now that we are investing Nike is back, we can thank Mario and his relationship with Phil Knight as well
Revenue generation is huge on the landscape and NKie came to the table. FWIW the logo the U still has a lot of cache
thank you Howard for holding firm on the logo
Nike held on to their crappy operating model(pay schools peanuts and depend on brand loyalty to hold the stable together) for too long, and Miami was forced to make a move. It had nothing to do with investment in football or whatever, because schools like Tennessee and Michigan got paid despite being mediocre(or worse) during the same period.

Nike had a virtual monopoly, and they held onto it until Adidas started throwing money around. It’s not an accident that the deals EXPLODED after Miami went off to Adidas. Tennessee got their mega deal, same with Michigan. Nike has to pay now and we took the best deal on the table.

Looks like annually this is about $13 million in cash and $7 million in apparel. Great news but I just hope Nike doesn't pull the same crap as last time and change our uniform every couple of years.

The head coach has to agree with that. Mario won't do that. If anything our uniforms will be close to our OG uniforms of the 1980s.

Adidas was the leading company in soccer in that era by a gigantic margin. They supplied most national teams with boots, had by far the highest quality level and supplied the official balls for every major tournament.

Then Nike signed MJ and the rest is history...

Nike is paying and Nike is aligning themselves with the best programs. They have/are letting some of their weaker schools go.

Well, I like Adidas, as long as Nike doesn’t start treating us like that redheaded stepchild, like they did the last time around, I’m cool with it.
I like Adidas too, but this is about money and I understand the why. I’m loyal to The University of Miami, our corporate partners only matter if they help us be a world class University. Time to stock up on Adidas merch, while also adding some Nike stuff(I’ve always preferred Nikes cold weather gear). There’s also some Nike gear in my basement that is about to return back to the main closet!

I read it. Adidas gave us an offer that Rad, whilst he was still in office, wanted to accept but ran by Echevarria. He ran the deal by Manuel Kadre, who is the Chair of the Board of Trustees, who then spoke to Nike. Nike made an offer that was ludicrously higher and Miami reached an agreement. Adidas contractually had time to match, and if they matched the deal, Miami would've accepted that.

Deal wasn't matched, Miami went with Nike.
Great job doing due diligence Rad. Glad that the people who are making decisions now actually care.

The halcyon days. The former women’s teaching college can’t keep their lights on and we are back with Nike.
