It's funny how quick y'all forgot about Jojo and don't realize how bluechip Malachi was considered. Maybe it's because Jojo was considered a two-way player that some people including us had interest with him at safety. Maybe that's the reason for the disrespect to this kid. I got to say I was somewhat convinced safety was look for him because he has great instincts on that side of the field but after seeing his hands in person to sleep on this kid don't make sense
I haven’t forgotten anything. Neither baby Jesus or Jojo were regarded as high as Keyes or j smith or other receivers from their cycle. I wasn’t clear enough about “highly rated”. I’m talking about Dekorian Moore level. Malachi was the 55th ranked receiver. Sorry but those aren’t bragging rights.
I hate recruiting receivers from down here. The politics and bs involved is mind blowing. And the social media 7 on 7 hype hasn’t matched the Saturdays with most of these kids.
As far as jojo, the only thing I’ve said is that he hasn’t proven anything except being hurt, catching one handed while being defended by a cone, and rumors of greatness in practice against a secondary that everyone has torched. Thats a fact and not disrespect. As athletes and coaches say “your best ability is availability”. Reality is harsh. And reality is unfair.
Will Malachi be better than Vernel Brown? Idk. I can’t evaluate. But to my non evaluator eyes he looked better on tape than Malachi and he’s was a top 10 receiver.
I want nothing more than both of them to be all Americans and break records and make money for their grandchildren.
But I’m also a realist. And the reality is that they haven’t proven anything on Saturdays.
Everyone excited about Malachi’s spring game.
Well didn’t x have like 170 yards in his first spring game?
When we recruit a 10.6 100meter, 6’1 or taller consensus 5 star receiver, then we’re talking. Until then, it’s just another 4 star slot that we hope turns into a day one pick instead of an udfa with a 20 page thread about development.
Let’s put it into perspective.
J Smith after a week of practice had everyone knowing he was gonna start.
But we sit here and wonder how many snaps Malachi is gonna get and hoping to see if a dude who’s been here a year breaks out.
I hope reality is just as harsh and steals on me when jojo goes for 200 against the domers. But I just don’t see it.
There seems to be a recruiting philosophy or communication disconnect when you can recruit the number one player in the nation but can’t land an elite can’t miss wide receiver.
Since Mario has been here we’ve recruited and had visits from the top receivers in from every corner of the country and we can’t land them. We can land cam Ward but not j smith.
We can land uga’s qb but can’t land an elite portal receiver.
Math is not mathing or something is being lost in translation.
