NFL Scouting, the draft and Gerald Willis

His biggest sin is, he played at UM, had he been at any other school, he goes high in the draft. Alot of people are either intenionally being clueless or are just clueless for real, they actually believe their is no bias towards UM players. Wake up people, alot of the scouts and some gm's these days were the same ones watching their teams get whooped by UM in times passed and still salty, its a concentrated effort. For those who want to keep thinking or not thinking, go pull up the old interviews when they asked don shula if irvin or deion sanders was available when their pick came around would he draft em, i remember exactly what that losing moron said!
Seriously, what planet are you from? Have you come in peace or with vengeance? Clearly, you and your people are of a lesser intelligence, but even with that fact said, not even the sub, sub-morons believe Don Shula was a loser.

Everything you’re saying is correct, but I still contend had he handled himself, or possibly had better direction from his agent team, and killed the offseason, those concerns would have been allayed.

Like I said in another thread, every single decision he made the day after the last regular season game was the wrong decision.

Yet there was nary a peep from anyone at Miami about him being a problem the last couple of years..

What happened between
Absolutely agree. Something definitely happened leading up to the draft.

Manny tweeted how the Cowboys got a steal by selecting Joe Jackson in the 5th round.

Any tweets about Willis?

he missed an entire season due to personal or family issues that no one knows about. if thats not major off field issues, then idk what is
"Off Field Issues" always carry a negative connotation. If a kid doesn't play due to an undisclosed illness or family issue, rarely, if ever, are those situations referred to as "Off Field Issues".

in his case, he already had actual off field issues and then took an absence from the team that we never actually found out about. I'm sure NFL teams know the real reason for the 2017 season, but its still viewed as a negative imo until it actually comes out.

The "Off Field Issues" are greatly exaggerated concerning what NFL teams will and will not do. They are great negotiating tools in many instances. The bottom line is talent! If they think a kid has talent and know he is a potential serial killer they might take him believing they can rehabilitate a budding Ted Bundy. All the politically correct BS the NFL pumps out fly's in the face of the many deranged players they take. In recent year's it has become more difficult to put a suspected misfit on an NFL rosters due to the yapping social media hyenas. Willis's problems are not "Off Field Issues", his problem is NFL teams don't believe he has the talent, which I am convinced he will prove them wrong.

Jameis didn’t fall a pick and he raped and stole from a store. Get out of her with the off the field playing a part. I vividly remember ESPN saying “we know what Jameis issues are it’s Concerning that Mariota hasn’t had any reported” so it’s bias for whom ever they deem worthy. They use it for and against kids

Here’s the hypocrisy in all of this. The league gives second chances to women/child abusers but won’t take a chance on a guy from all reports who has changed from having a bad temperament at uf and was personally vouched for by Mark Richt numerous times who was arguably the best man in football ? The optics is crazy on this even with his issues especially since we have saw players do much worse get drafted in this draft alone
Playing devils advocate, most of the guys the NFL takes a chance on are established players. I would imagine teams are much less likely to give that much leeway to an unproven commodity

We will see how Willis reports to camp, the NFL don't play if he has any hint of the Yearby infection Willis will be asking paper or plastic soon. I will never understand why athletes have all the opportunity in the world spoon fed to them then take there foot off the peddle and choose to Yearby there future.

Now the real world is in his face with a piece of tape on his locker scribbled Willis ready to be torn off for the next guy in seconds , he's at a cross road NFL start-em or filling out grocery store kiosk computer applications.

WELCOME TO THE "NO" FREE LUNCH WORLD :)

winston also had a dude from the bucs follow him around in every bar he set foot in for four months prior to the draft. they'll get more leeway (see baker mayfield) IF teams believe he's a franchise. willis played basically 1 season out of 5, missed an entire year for reasons im sure the nFL knows, but we don't, and that was all after his prior history that got him booted from another school. willis also isn't a franchise type player either coming into the draft. teams can forgive stuff if they think your talent is something that can change their franchise. willis isnt changing the ravens team into SB contenders. i do think **** do well tho, but it isnt hard to understand why he fell.

So Willis may have not done all the right things during his pre-draft activities, or had the cleanest progression through college but I thought the NFL was about winning football games and acquiring talent wherever you can???

The argument for Willis to get drafted, simply put the guy was the best player last year on the #2 defense in the country. He wore the Captain's C on his jersey so presumably he had the respect of the team, a team I might add that was anchored by their defense as their offense had some big issues so the defense was required to play a majority of the game, even in games they won handily, like Pitt. The defense was asked to do too much last year and they responded like a great defense and the captain of that defense doesn't even get drafted??? Doesn't UM warrant enough respect to take a flyer on a guy from a program like that at least in the last round of the draft?

This is an example of a bunch of lemmings following each other over a cliff, oh the geniuses of the NFL deem Gerald Willis not worth drafting. I am sick to my stomach the Dolphins did not draft him in the 7th round with one of their two picks, just inept drafting at that point! A team as bereft of talent as the Fins can't squeeze a potential starter into their mix? Bullsh!t!

Well nothing gets a Cane more motivated than disrespect, so I would love nothing more than to see Willis with some significant playing time next year and to watch the imbeciles in all the front offices around the league watching it up close and personal! I root for all Canes in the league, even if they play for the Jets, but Willis just became the most important Cane to succeed in the league!
As a Ravens fan. I approve of this message

lol people on this board thought willis would never play a down here for most of his career. you guys have to accept the fact that hes not a proven talent, no matter how good last year was. he had 1 season out of 5 that he actually took the field with consistency. i think **** be fine in the NFL, but this isnt rocket science. there's an equal chance he completely flames out as well. i think most of the board would understand this better if we knew what the NFL knows about his year off in 2017. im sure there are more things in his past that we were never told, as well.

You're Assuming that Atlanta did make a play for Willis!! Just maybe Willis valued being closer to his brother(playing for the Redskins) and thought that Baltimore is a better organization than any other club that wanted to sign him as UDFA??

Atlanta Falcons Draft Report

The Falcons clearly viewed the offensive line as a priority, to get the most out of quarterback Matt Ryan. The team used the No. 14 pick on guard Chris Lindstrom, then traded back into the first round to take right tackle Kaleb McGary at No. 31. Atlanta has put an absurd amount of resources into the offensive line this offseason.

On Day 3, the Falcons got nice depth with cornerback Kendall Sheffield, pass rusher John Cominsky, and big running back Qadree Ollison.
Where’s the defensive tackle, though? That was arguably the team’s biggest need, and it went unaddressed.
Grade: C+

So they have a need at defensive tackle, they have Jess Simpson as defensive line coach and they don't take Willis, even as a free agent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's what Richt said Publicly!!

You’re obviously wrong in your basic premise. It’s patently clear that ‘all reports’ on the guy did not come back as you describe. And you have no idea what Richt said privately. This isn’t hypocrisy at all. It’s just an evaluation. When the guy’s own college DL coach passes on him, maybe the point isn’t as confusing as you find it to be.

Willis is going to ball out in the NFL. He is a great player. He just needs to avoid the knucklehead mistake on and off bye field.

There's something else that has not been mentioned publicly. I understand that Willis only hurt himself this off season but 7th round picks are basically throw away selections. One team drafted a long snapper. You're going to tell me that there wasn't a single team that would gamble a throw away 7th round pick on a guy who just had an all-conference caliber season for a power 5 team? Something is not right.
