Why did they spike it on 1st down?

They had enough time to run four plays.

I hated that , I was cussing at the tv. You don't waste a down that close because it's hard to pass in those small windows , you need every chance you can get. They could've ran a play easily without losing much time. Downs was more precious than time at that point.
