Now that we know we will not be signing atop 5 QB with experience, the time has come to urgently address our deficiencies through the portal NOW!

If Luke or Emory are going to be our next QB, surround him with an amazing OL, WR receivers that can separate for easier throws, and TE that can block and impact the game!

Next, buy the best D $$$ can buy! But don't wait and show urgency in going after great players!

I understand the frustration among fans, bit believe we can still win with Luke or Emory under center if Cristobal ask quickly to surround The U!

I wouldn't rule out a QB hitting the portal soon after seeing that 6.5 all over the Internet lol... agents are scrambling to find somebody that will get them a nice paycheck....

The absolute worst case: we get to summer without signing one and know for a fact that the kids on campus won't win us 10-11 games. We up the $$ and see a kid enroll without a portal needed.
 
There is ZERO reason for Emory to start next year. Assuming we don't pick up anyone you have to go with either Nickel or Coleman. You are not making the playoff with Emory so going 8-4/9-3 and still having no idea if you need to hit the portal hard in 2027 makes no sense. Yeah you may lose an extra game or two with Nickel or Coleman but at least you will know for sure your long-term strategy at the most important position on the field going into next off-season.

I think rather than trying to overspend on other positions without a QB (the strategy advanced by the OP) just to make some kind of splash, it makes sense to just pocket any money you had planned to blow this off-season and accept next season as a developmental/rebuilding season. Michigan did this in 2024 after winning a title in 2023 and it worked fine. I know it sucks, but we just have to admit we failed this portal cycle, it may be due to the calendar (which is terrible), it may be due to Mario playing with fire at QB for the 3rd year in a row, it may be due to other teams just wanting to pay to win more, but we need to cut our losses rather than throwing money around just for the sake of throwing money around.

I know people will say taking a rebuilding year is risky because you lose "momentum"... LSU was 7-6 this year, UF was 4-8 and are killing it in the portal, momentum doesn't matter nearly as much as it used to since you can remake your entire team with the portal and NIL year to year. The "suck tax" is a super overrated concept and really only applies to FSU.
 
Since it looks like we struck out with all the big names, I would pick up the Andrew Body kid for cheap from Alabama State and have him compete. I don't think it would hurt it shouldn't cost us too much. He also was a baller and the HBCU player of the year

Go get Taron ****ens from Western Carolina.
Local kid. Played at MNW. He's undersized, BUT...

Completed 74% of his passes this year for over 3500 yards with 38 TD and 2 INT...in only NINE games!

And he's only a junior.
