After years of Diaz and his “scheme” I’ve come to the conclusion that the 4-2-5 is trash. The 3-4 hybrid is the best option for balance and effectiveness in both run and pass defense. Recruiting quality linebackers and hybrid DEs would improve as well.

Thoughts?

Lol the 4-2-5 is necessary for today’s game. But the hybrid gotta be a stud

All about the horses you have, Krazy. When we recruit better, a 4-2-5/3-4/4-3/3-3-5, all can work pending your personnel. Our lb’s suck, tremendously..so idk if switching to that any time soon would be the right move. We need to minimize the amount of LBs on the field, not add more lol.

I personally prefer the 4-2-5 and getting your hybrid guys on the back end in there to better defend the way that football is trending. But gotta have 2 LBs that can run and strike, we don’t lol.

4-2-5 is a nickel defense. Most teams play 3 or nore WR predominantly. I want us to recruit taller players in the front 7. That's the main change i want particularly at LB. More Chase Smiths

3-4 is superior but it’s hard to recruit the right personnel especially NT unless you’re Bama.

Trust me when I say…. The 4-2-5 is not the issue. It’s the installation, the installer, and the talent running it. In today’s game, with all of these spread offenses and different personnel groupings, you have to be multiple. The 4-2-5 offers that. I say all that to say that All 4-2-5 defenses are not created equal.

I think the 4-2-5 puts too much pressure on true linebackers to be better athletes than most are at that position. Would need to recruit more safeties like a Keontra Smith and make them linebackers bc (not enough) true linebackers of quality don’t seem to want to risk playing in a strictly 4-2-5 system.

I’d like to see us move to more of a 3-3-5.

I think we should be more Multiple in general & have the versatility to switch personnel depending on the team we play.

Running a 3-4 would take a while to properly transition into, just like for those that want us to become a Power run team on Offense, we simply don’t have the personnel to become this slow pace “Run the ball & play stout Defense” team that yall want. We’re not a SEC/B1G team & we can’t become one overnight, the key to becoming like those teams are all centered around recruiting & developing Woolly Mammoths in the trenches & that takes a couple of classes to get the talent level fully acclimated into the system.

The 4-2-5 isn’t the issue, it’s how we run it & who Diaz chooses to play while running it.

But I’m not against switching to a whole new defense in general, just as long as we get a new HC who brings in a legit DC & allows that DC to bring in a good LB’s coach (if he’s not already one himself) & a legit DLine coach too.

I’m in favor of keeping TRob if he wants to stay, but if not, we’ll need a legit DB recruiter too & someone who understands exactly what to look for in a cover corner. Fact is, DVD is just too green to be a full time position coach.
