New Season ,New Starting Cb’s

Only looking at players currently committed/on the team:

CB: Michael Jackson > Al Blades > Nigel Bethel

CB: Jhavonte Dean > DJ Ivey > Gilbert Frierson

Nickel: Trajan Bandy > Derrick Smith

S: Jaquan Johnson > Gurvan Hall > Romeo Finley

S: Sheldrick Redwine > Amari Carter > Robert Knowles

...Also, I'd expect Frierson and Bethel to be competing right away for the starting PR job and maybe KR too.

This is why if Rumph can't close on both Campbell and Surtain he should be immediately fired. CB is a big need, plus we offer immediate opportunities to start

Pass on Dean

i rather have ivey or Gilbert

I think dean is pretty good I just think he lack confidence if we could get him to believe he can be the best corner in our conference and a first round draft pick.

Idk about all that

Per Fall camp reports dude doesn't like contact at all.. per Diaz, if you can't tackle you won't see the field

When it comes to being physical, you either got it or you don't. TBH I don't expect much from Dean at UM. Hope he proves me wrong and balls out

I think Hall will start over Redwine at Free.

Bandy, Dean, and MJack will be the top three CB's.

Dean is THE key to the group right now. He's had a year to learn his craft and technique. Last year he was basically a big fast athlete running around out there. He's by far the most gifted CB we currently have on the roster and Rumph needs to get all that potential out of him.

It's kinda silly to speculate on the freshman. Nobody really knows which one will step up, but a couple of them probably will.

Georgia has a need too and I’m sure promised Campbell a starting spot. Pretty sure everyone has promised those 2 atleast playing time if not a starting spot.

CB - Michael Jackson - Al Blades

Nickel/Hybrid - Trajan Bandy - Derrick Smith

FS - Sheldrick Redwine - Gilbert Frierson

SS - Jaquan Johnson - Amari Carter - Gurvan Hall

CB - Jhavonte Dean - DJ Ivey

Honestly, that's scary as ****. Not debating the talent there but it's not developed yet for the most part

Elite talent across the board... speed and athleticism with michael Jackson and Jaquan Johnson leading, Bandy and Redwine flying around and Smith and Carter killing mfkers

Nothing to be worried about imo...

I think Hall would get snaps behind Bandy though with Smith at FS and Carter at SS.

Even Bama can promise them a **** load of playing time. They are losing 5 DBs (3 CBs) to the NFL.

Alabama has 12 four/five stars on the current roster. Georgia has 6.

We have 3.

I have a strong feeling that a couple of weeks from now Rumph will be glad that you're not in control of his employment on the coaching staff.

We are sitting with the #2 rated DB class behind only Texas. LMFAO.

Since Kenny Phillips in 2005 Miami has signed exactly 1 5* DB named Tracy Howard. You expect Rumph to sign two in one class or be fired? Ok.

Glad you brought up Tracy Howard. If Paul Williams kept Tracy Howard from leaving town it will be mindboggling if Rumph strikes out on both Surtain and Campbell. Not expecting both to sign but we need to close on 1 of them.

Paul Williams was quite simply the worst assistant coach ever to walk on campus in Coral Gables. That is a profound statement based on the # of coaching beauties have had the past 15 years.

It would just mean nothing has changed. Miami would still be losing 5* dbs. I expect us to sign one soon, but the criticism here is just not objective or fair. Folks want to fire Rumph for for not fixing a trend that's been happening all along. It lies on him and him alone. We've signed I think 4 total 5* recruits since Kenny Phillips including Lingard. What about all the other position coaches that haven't signed 5* recruits? That'll be almost our entire staff.

I want this to improve too but the demands some are making are hilarious.

Doesn’t matter who starts but we’ll be running out multiple true freshmen for meaningful minutes.

Diaz, Rumph, and Banda have their work cut out for them.

So what? Cornerback is easiest position to adjust to from high school to college if the kid(s) have the right tools. Tons of kids making the transition well and starting as true freshmen. Look around the country at the major programs. Bandy made the adjustment well. Blades and Ivey are athletic and long. Amazing to me what an opportunity for Campbell and Surtain. You can see how good this offense is going to be over the next 3 years. Just amazing they don't jump on board. Easy drive for the family to walk them play.
