New OG in portal. Immediate with 2 years.

No not really, we need guards as well...Would have been nice if either Boulware or Mahoney hung around for depth purposes.

There's only 13 lineman on campus and 3 of them are trash. Most teams carry 14-16. WE NEED BODIES.

asking for a friend, I will say Donaldson is a solid OG. But until further notice Scaife is an OT, so who is the second starting OG, no less who are the backups. Without a proven quality being available, this is the time for hope by numbers. I would love to hear Reed, Campbell, Hillary, Herbert, Dystra, or Griffith are the answers. Does anyone want to step up and say any of those are?

Cleveland reed and Hillary at right guard . You got to let guys develop, can’t keep going to the transfer portal for everything. Develop your young players. You won’t know what you have until then.

Plus who is to say this guy is good anyway? If he’s transferring after spring from Texas tech of all places how is that guy going to help us if he can’t start there? I’m all for taking transfers but not filling up the roster with just anybody. That’s how you end up with dead weight like Kennedy. EVERY transfer don’t always pan out, it’s just common sense

It’s actually worse than this. As you said Dykstra, Kennedy and Brown are trash but the other 2 are redshirt walk-ons in Moose and Lerman. Essentially we have 8 scholarship OL who we can count on coming out of camp, one of who should redshirt. The 2 coming in would ideally redshirt as well.

Zion has surprised a lot of people, myself included but one of the main reasons he saw a lot of run with the 2nd team and eventually the 1st, was because of the run of injuries we had which cause Barry to start shuffling players around. Particularly when Gaynor went down and Donaldson went to C.

Ideally we should bring in a T because many think that Herbert and Scaife (I disagree on Scaife) are better suited for OG. However, if there isn’t a solid OT grad transfer available, we do need to bring in a solid OG/OC to provide depth. Someone like Boulware, who would have really helped if he stuck around.

If we exclude the 5 liabilities mentioned above, here is our depth chart going into next year:

C-Gaynor, Clark
OG-Donaldson, Reed and Hillery
OT-Scaife, Campbell, Herbert, Zion, El Gammal

With every new portal post I feel like I'm looking at used car ads again. Need to take these kids to a mechanic of our choice to check them out before signing.
