Does every walk-on dress for every game?

Yeah I mean we're not the only team with multiple players wearing the same jersey number, and yet we seem to be among the few who do the whole Clark Kent thing on the sideline. It creates a sense of panic imo. And didn't we ***** this up once in 2023? I swear we were called for an infraction where two blokes wearing the same number were onthe field for a play.

I'm guessing 22 for no real reason aside from 6 is already taken.

I think for the home games, yes. They still need to be assigned a number. Whether they actually get on the field to necessitate one of those "temp" jerseys is a different issue.

My only beef with it is why do they make the return man wear the weird jersey? As the offensive player, he has to rush off the field, have the fake jersey taken off and then rush back onto the field. Why not just make the defensive player, who’s just going to go to the bench after the return, wear the alternate jersey?

I believe it’s because the previous play was a 3rd down ( likely a pass play) and defensive player (DB) was already on the field and probably on for the previous play before that so them switching jerseys for him wasn’t an option.

Much easier to have the offensive player who’d been standing on the sideline throw on something different.

Depends on who the returner is. If it's a defensive player, it shouldn't matter.

Also, the kids who fight over the same jersey numbers tend to be the skill position players.

Retired jerseys should be hung up and displayed, but players should be able to wear them.

What happens when a new players is worthy of having his jersey retired? Would be 5 #20s hanging in the rafters - would look terrible

Just home games. They don’t travel majority of the time. Usually only set amount of players.
