Can someone in the know shed some light on why I/anyone can't find one? What's the story here? It's a very popular brand that works with just about everyone. Can someone make this make sense?

Your best bet is to get one of the New Era hats that stretches.

In the era of Fanatics and managing-inventory, I think the only fitted hats you are going to be able to find will be the "official" apparel company for each school. Hope you like adidas...

Thanks for the reply. This is what I feared. I am not rocking an Adidas fitted, though.

I have some fitted hats from other universities. I doubt New Era is the official apparel company for: St. John's, Columbia, and NYU.

Gotta be more to this.

I have a couple of the “flex fit” hats that I picked up from Canes Wear and i actually like them better than some of my old fitted ones. Plus the material doesn’t allow nasty sweat rings so even though I’m dripping sweat in the oven that is Hard Rock Stadium, my hat never looks nasty.

What size do you wear? I have one that I only wore a few times that I haven't worn in a long time. It's either a 7 and 1/8 or 7 and 1/4.

Yeah my assumption has been the apparel provider “lets” the universities cut some deals with New Era because the 5950s would naturally be in demand because they’re 5950s. Ain’t no one buying badger sports MIT cap even if the players wear it (making the example up) but guarantee there’s a boatload of SABR fans who would scoop up the 5950 in a heartbeat.

Particularly because they’re no competition for many of these smaller university brands. I think the U is still big enough of a brand that Adidas wants to protect it and preclude third parties from cutting into sales. So that language would likely have been included in the contract (I think that document was posted here somewhere).

Not that one school is any one big revenue provider for a sole product but repeated… maybe it does help. That will conclude my rambling conjecture.

A man who may know: @Rellyrell

I always look at a school’s online bookstore for such and have some other schools’ 5950s; none of them major programs though.

I appreciate the response. That makes a lot of sense.

To your point, I was able to secure a St. John's fitted through their bookstore. I'm an NYU alum, and am struggling to bring myself to purchase it (still will). We have the worst mascot, a ******* torch. Our name is "The Violets" - bahaha

UL
KU
UW
Rutgers (although almost sold out)
Indiana

Etc. all have New Era hats available. My assumption is once again, Blake James like w/ everything else w/ this Adidas contract, didn’t read every fine print item, & we probably gave Adidas exclusivity to all performance branded items. (Again, assumption b/c of everything else that I assumed came to light).

A co. like 47 is a vintage brand, & vintage branding is different; yes, there is still licensing that goes into it, but it’s not looked at on the same apparel genre.

I thought so; no, it’s not an ugly hat. I, too, have a couple of 47 hats, but they are not remotely my preferred brand. New Era is what today’s athletes, baseball players, young adults sport. My pops like 47-esq type of hats b/c he likes the stretch feel to them.

Yeah, we don’t really do stretchy fitted (lol); but, again, it’s not an ugly hat. I only got it b/c it’s vintage, & I have a vintage sweater I got from another vintage, university online store, so it matched. Also, the other vintage I purchased the orange is spot on w/ the Nike Miami Hurricanes dunks, so it was a great buy.
