NIL - changed everything. Fans now however much you donate feel like they have a bigger voice. Coaches have short leases.
Long-Term Deals - have to be over or soon to be over. Presidents, AD’s etc can’t be hoodwinked by Jimmy Sexton anymore. Contracts will be like NFL - 3-5 years. These 10 year deals can’t be the norm anymore or getting new deals extending the contract another 5 or 7 years is crazy. These buyouts can’t go on forever and between fans, administrators, public school funding, etc. this is getting crazy and the money is just being thrown away. Jimbo crushed it and Texas A&M along with the SEC will destroy it. Yes Curt just got it and Lane will get it. But how much more can this last? And if they do 10 year deals there will be offset language, buyouts at discounted present values, etc. Something will change.
Lower level P4 or G5 - my guess is why would a good coach at one of those schools leave? It’s beyond hard to win an NC combined with NIL it can be a bit of a crapshoot. Why leave a good thing especially if the school doesnt have unrealistic expectations. Think Manny for example why leave a Duke or Eli Drinkwitz at Mizzu? These programs have little history, are doing well, fans don’t expect NCs, you win - why leave? I hate Brian Kelly but he’s not a bad coach. James Franklin isn’t a bad coach. But maybe now it goes back to NIL and everyone thinks they should be great because they have NIL to spend. But so do the top teams!
How many Dan Lanning’s are there and as good as he is he’s got NIKE money. Wasn’t it after week 2 and Notre Dame being 0-2 that Marcus Freeman might not be it and now he’s amazing.
Every school today thinks because they have NIL they should be great. For every winner there is a loser. It’s so different and frankly a bit of a joke. I mean the SEC is no cakewalk and now with so much more parity on CFB it’s not like what it was and I bet why Saban left. You don’t have 3 deep at positions.
The one thing I think you need in CFB is a creative offense strategy. Maybe Lane just gets it. Or is just ruthless. But I don’t think there is one coaching candidate that is like HOLY SH*T this guy is 100% foolproof.
