And all the college town stadiums are being renovated to 1) reduce capacity because NO ONE SELLS OUT ANYMORE and 2) become more like NFL stadiums with the same amenities.

Edit: @Tony4Canes what are you disagreeing about here? I can name several examples.

Yes hard rock is amazing, I love having a seat back, good bathrooms, and the food. But at the same time I do envy the on campus, density, and vibe of the kinda grungy SEC stadiums. Even morseo when we walk into them and kick *** like UF with Ward.

Gotta realize tho, that we aren’t and will never be that type of program. HRS is a good stadium albeit FAR.

There are pros and cons to having the on-campus stadium. I went to undergrad at UM, law school at a northern FCS school, and business school at UF. I have been to many, MANY games at UF.

One thing about UF is that the students routinely do not stick around past halftime, unless it is a really huge game like an LSU night game (like our ND game). They leave to go to the Midtown bars. And this is not just now because they suck - it’s always been a thing. Also, SEC started beer sales in stadiums, and they still leave.

So it’s a bit of a double-edged sword. It’s great to have an on-campus stadium because of the accessibility for students, but people forget it also means that it’s very easy for them to leave. And these SEC schools do not sell out unless it’s a big game, same as us.

Tennessee
Auburn
Arkansas
South Carolina even

Haven’t been to Bama or Ole Miss but they’re always packed

Miami students also leave at halftime, the difference is they do it to save time on the hour bus ride back.

So you go to them regularly? Or they were packed for the game you went to?

Because no, Ole Miss and Bama and Arkansas and South Carolina and Auburn are not always packed. LSU may be. But no, the rest absolutely are not.

Sure, but when there are only a few thousand students it’s not a big deal. Do you have any idea how many students are in UF’s student section?

If you say so. Others on this board have agreed with me previously. This isn’t the first time we’ve had this discussion on the board.

Coincidentally, I’m actually going to be in Auburn this weekend. Looks like I may get stuck there due to the storm hitting Atlanta.

Both teams have significant numbers that leave at halftime for non marquee games. The difference is that Miami can’t fill half of the student ticket spots in the first place because it’s a hour each way.

The average SEC school has a total undergrad enrollment that is ~ 3X with UM's is. Totally different dynamic. Miami is a market-based program, not a campus-based one.

Yeah, I think you made that point in your first post.

If you don’t understand that these numbers aren’t anywhere near the same due to UF’s student population size being significantly higher, then I don’t know what to tell you.

HRS also is much easier for alumni/fans to get to, instead of being a college town that people have to drive hours to (with hotels having a two-night minimum), so again, there are a lot of factors.

I inadvertently and incorrectly used the term “bowl game.” Proper term would’ve been “championship game,” since we played in both the Fiesta Bowl and Cotton Bowl prior to the championship game and after the game. We were not the home team because we were the #10 seed.

I was at the Orange Bowl when we lost to Nebraska in 1995. The stadium was 80% red. It was weird. Their fans were weird. Nice but weird.
