New Barry Jackson Piece Shows We’re Fvcked

So the BOT doesn’t want to get involved with the President

The President doesn’t want to get involved with the Athletic Director

The Athletic Director doesn’t want to get involved with the football coach

The struggling football coach has no prior experience running a football program. Oh, and he doesn’t want to get involved with his Offensive Coordinator

We’re a rudderless ship.

I'm legitimately curious about Highsmith and carving out a role for him here. But I can't see that happening.

James would likely be concerned about hiring a popular former player that might draw chatter to replace him. And I suspect Manny (and any other coach for that matter) might be reluctant about having a CEO type to oversee the football program.

But I'd love to see it. I'd like to see Miami continue to invest in the administrative side of the football team. For all the talk about players, coaches, recruiting, etc. that have ailed us for 15 or so years, there is likely a direct correlation to the amount invested in the football program and its win totals.

Yup. After Chris Ash was in his fourth season, compiled a record of 8-32, went 1-11 year three and started his fourth season 1-4.

There's a reason that BoT member went scorched earth with that run.

Manny Diaz went 6-6 after one year, having taken over a program act was 7-9 since it's 10-0 start in 2017.

If you can't see the difference between the two situations—there's nothing else to tell you.

Had Diaz gone 2-10 this year at Miami like Ash did his first season at Rutgers—there wouldn't have been a year two—and you'd have gotten the "blasting" of the school you wanted.

6-6 sucks, but it's not 2-10 or 1-11.

The only thing you’re missing is that Miami is not Rutgers. The expectation level between the two is not even in the same galaxy.

That being said, the whole thing is over. We’ll be lucky to see what we saw in 2017 once In a while if a decent coach is hired at some point.

I give the BOT credit for at least coming out and saying SOMETHING, even if it was done unofficially, anonymously, and even if they didn’t tell us everything we wanted to hear.

It was getting to be like North Korea over in Coral Gables. So at least someone is talking to Barry Jackson.

Be real; how often have we heard the usual “one member of the BOT who chooses anonymity says.......”

It’s all bull chit.

Listen, I’ll be Frank (no pun intended)....Frenk, Bass, Strawley, and Blake all need to go. Actually, I wouldn’t mind Blake remaining here as long as he’s an Asst AD, strictly responsible for the money boost, but we need a real AD who can work autonomously and have a real understanding of what’s needed to be successful. The fact Blake can still breathe after erratically making a impulsive hire, is beyond me. The fact that this BOT member said his job is safe after several failed hires, and the amount of lost money under his watch, shows this BOT member w influence don’t have chit for as far as influence.

We need a Chair of the BOT who cares about both academics and athletics and understand how athletics help supplement academics, as opposed to one that’s concerned w pushing a personal agenda/goal.

We need a President who’s more concerned w trying to be the best private school in the nation, as opposed to taking bare chested selfies.

We need a Deputy AD that actually know sports, v. taking stupid Tinder Profile Pics.

But in order for this to change, we need big money donors to demand this. The culture is not just the locker room, it’s the entire system. As I stated b4, if Miami’s academic ranking was top 30 during this period, maybe I can justify all this chit going on, but it’s fallen every year since Frenk came in, so it’s much more than just an “Athletic Dept” problem.

The two depts that were once revered (Football/Baseball) are now laughing stocks. We now have to be proud of winning nat’l titles in women’s tennis. Smh.

Truth

One of the most depressing reads I’ve ever put myself through.

Flake James continues to demonstrate that he’s a giant pvssy.

It sounds like UM’s President doesn’t give a fvck about sports.

And half the BOT doesn’t care at all about what’s going on.

Gentleman, things are only going to get worse.

“He’s done a great job of fundraising, won awards for athletic directors,” the trustee said. “Our student graduation rate is one of the highest in the country.”

That trustee said school president Julio Frenk “supports Blake. [Former president] Donna Shalala would fire an athletic director she wasn’t happy with, but Julio would leave it to the board. He’s not a sports enthusiast like Donna was.”

Let's break this down.

Fundraising? Great? We had to do a GoFundMe and multiple rounds of begging to fund the IPF, which any alum/booster could have told you was the TOP priority. So why all the struggles? What else have we raised funds for? A new football stadium? Nope. Buying out Willie Taggart? Nope. To use the word "great" would suggest he exceeded goals/expectations, but if you are doing just enough to keep the lights on, why call it "great"?

As for increases in HC contributions, let's think about this. Hard Rock Stadium has decreased seating capacity and parking capacity, while converting several areas of the stadium to "club access". And none of these upgrades are on Miami's dime. So the ability to command more from the HC membership on the football side is NOT due to anything that Blake has dome.

Won awards? Allow me to cut-and-paste from Blake's bio: "This year he was one of five nominees for the 2019 SportsBusiness Journal Athletic Director of the Year. In 2017, James was selected as one of four Division I recipients of the 2016-17 Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year award from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA)." So, he was NOMINATED for one award and was one of FOUR recipients for another award (no idea what the criteria were).

Student graduation rate? Come on, I have previously documented that Jimmy Johnson created our academic support program (as we currently know it) and it has been incredibly successful since the 1980s. Blake has nothing to do with this metric and has not INCREASED our success in this area in any measurable fashion.

As for what I have said about Shalala for quite some time, she loved and supported athletics, even if we did not attain the results we wanted. You can criticize her for favoring "on the rise" coaches like Coker/Shannon/Golden, but you can't say that she is responsible for our decline. The City of Miami destroyed the Orange Bowl, not UM or Shalala. And Frenk cares EVEN LESS than Foote did, if that is humanly possible.

Wake up, people.

Not in my opinion
To be fair, it’s only two people that are mostly responsible. And “delusional” is a better term than “liberal”
Not in my opinion I call them as I see them, liberals are a cancer to everything they touch. But, I do agree liberals are delusional. To be fair all 4 of the things you posted is about is liberalism, no real conservative would back any of that BS. No conservative I know would ever back **** like that let's be honest even though you might take **** here for it. I'm use to taking the BS I am honest about it.

Not sure how OP reads that article and comes to his conclusion. Personally I thought that article was positive.

Most rational posters realize Diaz wouldn't be let go after 1 season. In all liklihood, not even after season 2, being that he signed a 5 year deal, as stated in the article (also a very valid point that his contract should've been 3 years).

I read the article to say the BOT is unhappy and they want changes on offense. IMO, retaining Blake but hiring a football operations guy like Highsmith would be a welcome happy medium, if the administration is set on keeping Blake. Not sure what more you can ask for.

Blake has no business being an athletic director at this level. A quick and simple read of his bio on UM's website makes that quite clear. The simple fact that some BOT even mentioned that he had won some award as justification for why he should get to keep his job shows you how out of touch this University is with what's important when it comes to fielding competitive athletics programs in the revenue sports.

There is no justification for keeping Blake James on at AD. Exhibit 1-A is how he handled the hiring process for Manny Diaz. He may be a very nice guy with his heart in all the right places, but he is quite simply in WAY over his head.

I love this board. I remember when Richt came here and we put up the IPF, CIS was draining Frenk’s ******* over their faces until his dlck went limp. Now everyone is surprised to see what I’ve been saying all along that Frenk doesn’t give a fugg about our football program.

Every time I tried to criticize Blake over the past couple of years, I would get dozens of people who would tell me about the IPF.

F them now. I don't want to hear "but he built the IPF" EVER AGAIN.

I was not trying to argue or disagree with you but I beg you, can we not make this political? These people are delusional, regardless of their political affiliation.

And all 4 are not exclusive to liberal values. Just because it isn’t “conservative”, doesn’t make it “liberal”

4 things I posted:
1 - nothing to do with politics
2 - I don’t disagree with you here but both sides of the aisle have gone on record for supporting LGBTQ rights. My point is, it shouldn’t be the most important thing to the university and the #1 thing on the Prez’s agenda
3 and 4 - are delusional and sick. One is mental illness and one is a person doing whatever it takes to look distinguished in his/her distorted/perverted world

I agree 100% with everything you said. The bolded part is one thing I have been thinking about lately. People are up in arms with the board over Diaz's hire, but by all accounts, the decision to hire Diaz was driven by BJ largely in the face of the board and in defiance of them. The Richt hire I know the Board was strongly involved in, but this one it seems like they were hands off and let him run his department autonomously. There was also not really enough time for the board to even be involved. It is also why I cannot reconcile or understand how BJ's job is not in jeopardy with the board according to this article. For all of the money he may have raised, he has cost the school millions with foolish hiring decisions and undeserved contract extensions.

Every time you donate to UM just remember what you are contributing to:

-The 6 digit salaries of Frenks children who don’t even have a responsibilty
- LGBTQ upgrades on campus
- Research efforts of Bass, being assisted by Law School students to give mothers the right to make their children transsexual
- Figjting for the right of convicted child molesters to adopt children

This Frenk’s and Bass’s world

It’s time to declare war on these POS

Please tell us, in great specificity about:

1. LGBTQ "upgrades" on campus
2. Research efforts of Hilarie Bass "to give mothers the right to make their children transsexual"
3. "Fighting for the right of convicted child molesters to adopt children"

I'll wait. You won't answer, but I'll wait.
