University of Miami head men’s basketball coach Jim Larrañaga announced Friday the hiring of Chris Alvarez as the director of player development. A native Miamian, Alvarez previously worked at The U from 2011-13 as a graduate assistant. He is a former Division I player at both Dayton and Northeastern.

I ain't mad. Don't think I know who Chris Alvarez is, but I've been saying it for a while we need guy or 2 on the staff with in-state connections. Hopefully, he's got ties with some of the top local talent.

Dir of Player Dev does exactly what? Coach the kids on the floor or ... babysit them, making sure they go to class, get the help they need, etc?? Or both?

It can consist of a variety of duties, but usually they're the ones in charge of working out the players.
