If he's not at Sandbar with the rest of the team by the fall, I'd be shocked.
What happened to that poster that looked like an emaciated Guy Fawkes that stalked Olsen and posted about his social affairs on here? Became board famous for calling out Golden at a basketball game.

*Keep him away from Garcia.

I'm East Indian and it happened to me numerous times in Miami in the late 80's/early 90"s; at the mall, at the bank, etc

Yep. And my first-year Moot Court partner was half-Cuban and half-Irish, but looked 100% Irish. People would say things in Spanish in front of him, while assuming he was just someone who couldn't speak the language, and then he would bust out PERFECT and fluent Spanish. I saw a few people do double-takes.

My dumbass took 3 years of Latin in high school. It helped with reading Spanish, but we never conversed in Latin so it there was no way I was able to understand Spanish if someone speaking to me at normal speeds.

I took 4 years of Latin. It helped me on the SAT and in law school, but did nothing for me in speaking Spanish in Miami.

Miami the city has some of the finest women anywhere, however, dam few of them attend UM or walk on campus.
That ain't true. There's some hot women at The U. But I agree that you can't compare the selection of hot women at the U to gen pop. It's just not a fair comparison! Lol

Either way there's enough hot women there and in the city to keep Mr. Garcia occupied during his free time. I highly doubt he will go 3-4 years without a girlfriend or attending a few parties. I don't even think i would want my QB to be that weird. Wouldn't be good for team chemistry.

One of my good friends in law school was 100% Italian. She would go out to Publix and people working at the store would get mad at her for not speaking Spanish. This was the 90s, so maybe it's better now...or maybe not.

I remember I went to an auto parts store, asked the lady where a certain part was, and the lady got mad and looked at me like I offended her by speaking English.

She took me to another employee, same reaction...I had to go all the way to the back of the store before I could find somebody that could speak half-way decent English.

$h!t ****ed me off.

And then they tried to make Spanish the official language of Florida, got life ******* e d up.

Where the **** are you guys shopping? I speak English practically everywhere in Miami without an issue. Only when I go to little havana or sedanos or navarro or presidente or some little spanish restaurant do I need to speak spanish. And sure some people sigh when I speak to them in english--and usually I'll keep speaking english, even though I speak spanish fluently, unless they literally can't speak a word of english--but who cares?

Years ago...I think it was after we beat ND in the OB in '89, I went to the Burdines (I think it was in Dadeland) and wanted to buy some of the Canes stuff they had there. There were a bunch of young salespeople talking amongst themselves in Spanish. I couldn't get them to pay attention to me (a customer) long enough to answer a question.

I think the problem was not they were being rude to someone who wanted to ask them something in English...I think it was more an issue of youth and irresponsibility and not caring about job that for most of them was part time, temporary and not something that they really needed to live. It was very frustrating, though.

I once went to a drugstore in Little Havana to pick up an emergency prescription when I got sick on another trip to Miami for a UM game. It was amazing to me, the place was crowded because the pharmacy's computer had gone down, and everybody had been waiting for hours. I was amazed at how nobody was speaking English. It was just culture shock. Now, I'm not saying anything bad about people who prefer to speak Spanish, are more comfortable in their native language....I understand it. But I had not lived in south Florida since the early sixties and I was not familiar with how multilingual the city had become.

When I finally got to talk to the pharmacists, they were apologetic about the delay, suggested I try another pharmacy (there are or were not a lot of pharmacies open past 9 pm in Miami at the time), and very polite. Of course, nobody resented the fact I only spoke English. I hope there are more pharmacies with extended hours in south Florida now.

Couple things that stood out:
1. A quarterback at UM doesn’t have a girlfriend. That’s going to last about _____ seconds. Feel free to fill in the blank.
2. A person named Garcia who lives in Miami and doesn’t speak Spanish? That needs to change. Frankly, anyone who lives in Miami and doesn’t speak Spanish better learn. English is the 2nd language in Miami.
You probably don't remember, or are too young to know, a Miami Dolphin star named Manny Fernandez did not speak a word of Spanish.

Tates level of skill wasn't really the point I was trying to make. In Tate's situation, the off-field stuff wasn't the main issue. But if you don't think your level of commitment to the game plays a part in how far you make it I strongly disagree. This kid knows nothing but football. It seems to shock some of you that that mindset exists but there are athletes like that and they can go very far because of it. If they have the talent to go with it. I have a close friend who is an NHL Captain and he has changed every aspect of his life with the goal of winning the cup and becoming a Hall of Famer. He doesn't care who he upsets along the way, or what party he misses. You might not be wired like that (I'm not) but some are.

Also, Tate had skill. He wasn't a 5-star recruit that went undefeated in high school by luck. He lacked arm strength for sure amongst other flaws. But had he been able to buy in and focus and wait his turn at a program rather than let his ego/emotions/outside influence mess up his focus of being a QB. He could have earned a spot to start as a senior or gotten a chance at a smaller school. Instead, he finds himself posting social media clips with motivational quotes and no school to play at.
He lacked arm strength, accuracy, awareness, pocket poise, the ability to read defenses, and despite being athletic, knowing when to tuck it and run and find running lanes.

But sure the problem was instagram.

Lol.. You really believe he doesn't party, doesn't have a girlfriend, etc.? And even if it were true, do you really believe that will be the case going forward now that he's at Suntan U, which hosts arguably the finest selection of international co-ed poontang in America? And where he's gonna be considered "The Man" from day 1 as a nationally recognized QB recruit?? Hats off to him if he could pull that off, but it would take a saint or the second coming of Jesus Christ himself to do so.
Or a homo like tebow
