The University of Miami’s newest elite quarterback said he doesn’t party, doesn’t have a girlfriend, doesn’t watch Netflix and doesn’t check out You Tube.

He reminds me a lot of our last 5 star QB. Tate Martell. Except he loved to party, dated an Instagram model, was on a Netflix show and would tweet during games.

The type of kid you recruit makes a difference..
I keep laughing every time I see stuff like this. Tate flamed out because he's not near good enough to play QB at this level. The off field stuff doesn't help, but it's mostly irrelevant.

Tates level of skill wasn't really the point I was trying to make. In Tate's situation, the off-field stuff wasn't the main issue. But if you don't think your level of commitment to the game plays a part in how far you make it I strongly disagree. This kid knows nothing but football. It seems to shock some of you that that mindset exists but there are athletes like that and they can go very far because of it. If they have the talent to go with it. I have a close friend who is an NHL Captain and he has changed every aspect of his life with the goal of winning the cup and becoming a Hall of Famer. He doesn't care who he upsets along the way, or what party he misses. You might not be wired like that (I'm not) but some are.

Also, Tate had skill. He wasn't a 5-star recruit that went undefeated in high school by luck. He lacked arm strength for sure amongst other flaws. But had he been able to buy in and focus and wait his turn at a program rather than let his ego/emotions/outside influence mess up his focus of being a QB. He could have earned a spot to start as a senior or gotten a chance at a smaller school. Instead, he finds himself posting social media clips with motivational quotes and no school to play at.

One of my good friends in law school was 100% Italian. She would go out to Publix and people working at the store would get mad at her for not speaking Spanish. This was the 90s, so maybe it's better now...or maybe not.
Uh - I am Italian and when I was at Miami in the early 2000s people would get mad at me b/c they thought I was Spanish and couldn't speak it. I had a time at the airport where a well dress guy in a suit came up and asked me something in Spanish and I replied 'Sorry, no espanol' and he made an aggravated sigh and then asked me in perfect English what time it was 🤣

In fairness, my skin gets pretty dark when I am tan and I can end up passing for Hispanic/Mediterranean/Middle Eastern.

My daughter speaks pretty fluent Italian - she took Spanish at Miami as a sophomore and found it impossible to speak without it coming out sounding Italian. It came in handy though. She calls it "SpItalian" and it got her through another 4 years living there...

In Miami you can run into a redhead with green eyes that won’t understand a lick of English. Then walk into a place with an Asian that is Jamaican and maybe even Cuban or Russian.
speaking Spanish in Miami is just a good guess at what someone’s native tongue is. But judging a book by its cover can get tricky down here depending what neighborhood you’re in.

People in Miami always talked to me en Espanol, but no hables. I did pick up the cuss words when i was a kid so I knew when to swing though.

My dumbass took 3 years of Latin in high school. It helped with reading Spanish, but we never conversed in Latin so it there was no way I was able to understand Spanish if someone speaking to me at normal speeds.

I just want a different QB under center. Don't need to be negative, QB KING won't be ready. Why rush him for what REASON. A couple of games ain't going to kill us. Our defense will take care of it. They should do their job, after these yrs.

The great QBs tend to be football junkies. This doesn’t mean they don’t have fun and enjoy being a star athlete but they understand being great requires sacrifice.
